Someone had to do it. So I wrote a book unifying Creation/Evolution/Intelligent Design.
It starts out by showing how Nothing is the beginning of it all. And goes on to explain consciousness, self-creation and how we exist but don't exist. Please check out a sample
go to www.themetaphysics.com click on either eBook or Softcover and you'll be able to get a pdf sample of the first 10 pages. Looking forward to your feedback.

I will have a look but, to be honest, I fail to see how these various antagonist theories can be made compatible.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Carl Sagan - 1996

So...

1. Because "nothing" as a concept in mathematics exists, nothing is a thing that really exists.
2. Nothing can contain things.

OK...

I was missing some commas in the first few paragraphs.

Welcome to the Skeptic Friends Network, Brent.

Wow, on pages 8-11 you've got a lot of words related to Ø, but they're all based on the misunderstanding that Ø is nothing, when it's not. Ø denotes the Empty Set, not a "null element" of sets. On page 9, you parenthetically say,
There is quite a lot of philosophical and mathematical thoughts [sic] on this subject but please let me keep it this way so that we have common ground.
Um... no. Why should we ignore all the discussion of Ø throughout the decades? Just to save your pet tautology that "Nothing is the only thing that is Nothing?" Especially when the first thing that any philosopher or mathematician who knows this stuff ought to tell you is that Ø does not equal the concept of nothingness (or "non-existence," as you put it).

In other words, your "sketchy contribution" isn't even wrong, so it really doesn't matter if it's original or not. For example, I could say, "hey, wouldn't it be neat if fire were actually cold?" Calling that "original" is nothing but hubris, since it's flat-out untrue.

So, while you may not intend for this all to be "profound double talk" (page 11), it is exactly that. And because on the back cover you say,
...anyone willing to stretch their imagination will find that religion, mysticism, and science all agree
and you've liberally sprinkled (in the first 11 pages) the idea that those who don't agree with you will be judged to be "afraid" or otherwise unenlightened, and it's easy to predict that within the rest of the book, there won't be any supporting evidence for your premises, allowing you to wallow in wild speculation.

Ah, and I see you touch on Quantum Mechanics (back cover), which is an almost sure sign that a work of philosophy is going to be utter nonsense. But tell us, please, about this QM "experiment" that we can "build on" to bring the truth about "Nothing" (your capital) "into day-to-day reality" (whatever that means).

Hey, Brent, do you present any evidence that "souls" actually exist, or do you just assume that they do?

In what courses at what college or university did you earn all of your C+'s? Did you graduate with a degree? What was it?

Of course souls exist. Otherwise, there would be no need for this:

Mmmmm, gimmie some!

But I wonder, evil cynic that I am, if this is not just a plug for the book. I hope Brent returns to defend his assertions.

I'm pretty sure it's just a drive-by advertisement, but he's given us 10 pages of cud to chew, so I figured I'd let it stand. If he does come back, that'll just be a bonus.

That could be an interesting conversation, were it to take place (it won't).

But I think his opus will enjoy pretty good sales, unfounded beliefs in the metaphysical being as wide-spread as they are. Who knows; some errant soul might wander in here someday and use it for a reference.

Nah, I meant "cud," as in, "a hard-to-digest mass that's already come back up once."

God, it's hard to lose a world-famous author with spectacularly original and transformative philosophical/mathematical concepts from this arena of discourse!

What a bloody shame! Brent, please come back! Targets of your proportions don't appear all that often!

If what your saying it true, than who wrote the first post at the top of this thread?? "NOTHING?" or "Ø" or is there some woo woo involved that is responsible for a post by a "he" who was never really here?
Spam is spam and this, with it's link should be deleted like the spam it is. Just like priests, ministers, all self proclaimed "spiritual leaders" Brent is a conman, out to make a buck from anyone gullible enough to buy his hand and tongue waving. Just the way I see it, so far. SS
