It seems like it's not just vampires and the possessed that are afraid of the blessed liquid:
Clever Catholic inventor Luciano Marabese created the electronic holy water dispenser -- a terracotta wall-mounted urn with a sensor-controlled spigot underneath -- after hearing that fellow Italians, wary of contracting the swine flu, were afraid to dip their fingers in the holy water fonts at the entrance of their churches.

Oh ye of little faith...?

Yeah.....

But some are made of sterner stuff.
When a Catholic priest or bishop prepares holy water, which is used in baptisms or placed in fonts or stoups for the general blessing of the faithful, the prayers invoked are a kind of exorcism.

The prayer says in part:

"I exorcise thee in the name of God the Father almighty, and in the name of Jesus Christ His Son our Lord, and in the power of the Holy Ghost, that you may be able to put to flight all the power of the enemy."

That would seem to include any swine flu germs that might be hovering around the font.

One Orthodox Christian blogger took on the question, "Can I get sick from the chalice?" and answered with a resounding, "NO."

Quoting from St. John Chrysostrom, the blogger added:

"We should not worry about transmission of germs through common use of sacred vessels that have held and touched "the divine, holy, pure, immortal, heavenly, life giving, and awesome Mysteries of Christ, let us worthily give thanks to the Lord." And the blog added, "Further, Saint John in his Gospel quotes Jesus saying 'Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life,' (John 5:54). Why would something that is LIFE-giving be the carrier of something that causes disease and death?"
