Leiberman is simply a filthy whore who takes it up the ass from insurance companies so that they will pay him big bucks. That simple.

What's to say she wouldn't have died soon anyway, even with treatment? I'm not trying to use this to support any position on the issue, only questioning this sentence specifically.

@Dude -- doesn't it take 67 votes to permanently change senate rules? The end of this page (http://uspolitics.about.com/od/usgovernment/a/filibuster.htm) explains the "nuclear option", pretty interesting because I definitely misunderstood what it was at the time.

Hmmmm, ok. I thought there was some way they could do it with 51 votes. Maybe not.

They could just use the budget reconciliation process (which I understand only poorly), which seems to require only 51 votes, to bypass a filibuster entirely. I think.

I seriously hate these people, congress sucks.

From 59 to 33, ain't that too damned bad!
A new Research 2000 poll from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America shows that voters support a health care bill with a public option by an overwhelming majority, 59% to 31%--but when it comes to the newest Senate health care bill, with mandates and no public option, those numbers are nearly reversed. By caving to Joe Lieberman, Democrats are about to push for a bill with only 33% support.
Idiots; cowardly idiots!

And it's going to get a lot worse if these "leaders" of ours don't get their shit together quickly. Not even Republicans like having cheap politics played with the welfare of their families -- well, some of them, anyway.

Which gives the '10 elections the potential for being interesting. What a pity that it's not a contact sport.

On a somewhat brighter note, the signs and portents are showing that Hokey Holy Joe just might have stepped on his pecker. If so, I hope he was wearing a logger's boot.
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Joe Lieberman's (I-CT) staunch refusal to support both the public option and the Medicare buy-in compromise, thereby killing both programs, has sent the progressive base into a fury, eager to toss him out of office.

The liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org on Thursday announced that it had raised more than $1 million in a campaign drive to target Joe Lieberman for "single-handedly gutting health reform," as they accused him of doing in their first e-mail to members Tuesday.

"First, we're going to launch a huge ad campaign," Tuesday's e-mail read, "to make sure every last Connecticut voter knows that Senator Lieberman is blocking strong reforms. Then, we'll push Senate leaders to strip him of his chairmanship and seniority. Finally, we'll work to defeat him in his next election."

"Joe Lieberman can't be allowed to stay in the U.S. Senate," MoveOn declared.

Less than 24 hours later, the group claimed to have raised $650,000 "to send Lieberman home for good." Before another 24 hours were up, it had hit the $1 million mark.
