BBC Earth News has the story:
Peru poison frog reveals secret of monogamy

By Matt Walker
Editor, Earth News

The first monogamous amphibian has been discovered living in the rainforest of South America.

Genetic tests have revealed that male and females of one species of Peruvian poison frog remain utterly faithful.

More surprising is the discovery that just one thing - the size of the pools of water in which they lay their tadpoles - prevents the frogs straying.

That constitutes the best evidence yet documented that monogamy can have a single cause, say scientists.

Interesting article. Oddly enough, poison arrow frogs as a whole are not all that well known, even though these bright, little amphibians are often raised in captivity for the pet trade.

Really, nothing a frog does surprises me very much any more. They are some of the most remarkable animals on earth.

Not to worry, bngbuck, removed from their normal insect diet, they soon lose their toxicity and captive raised specimens never develop it. To me, hot or not, they are splendid eye-candy!

Thanks for the read, 'mooner!
