atheist bus campaign Thhe original said, in Italian: "La cattiva notizia è che Dio non esiste. Quella buona è che non ne hai bisogno", meaning "The bad news is that God does not exist. The good news is that you don't need him." I thought that needed a tweak.

Mooner.....
Somewhere in an urban environment in Italy there is a bus running around with a slogan that says, "The bad news is that God does not exist", quickly followed by, "The good news is that you don't need him"
I can't help but wonder what that says about the condition of the Catholic church today in Italy? Do you suppose the message is being well received?
I wonder even more about how well the Italian message (in English) or your improved version of it would go over in Atlanta, Austin, Salt Lake City, Jackson or Nashville - here in the US?
Here in Northern Idaho, the bus would have rotten tomatoes thrown at it.
I'm sure it is a private bus advertising a rational thinking group's message, and I'm for it 100%; but when I lived in Italy many, many years ago, such a thing was unthinkable.
And unfortunately, here today there are many areas in this country where a bus with this sign would run into agression and violence. |

| Actually, from what Wiki says, the Italian Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostic was soon shamefully prohibited by the Italian National Authority for Fair Trading and Competition from displaying that sign on busses.
Instead, the Italian freethinkers displayed this on busses: "The good news is there are millions of atheists in Italy. The excellent news is they believe in freedom of expression."
Since the censorship of the first slogan doubtless got plenty of attention, I account that as a fine result. |
