Vox uses a study to take a shot at atheists because of a study...I commented there on 3/5/10 12:34 PM, showing that PZ Meyers himself has shot that study down well before Vox got to it.
Maybe he could have spared himself from saying this:
There are several amusing aspects to this. First, I find it very funny indeed to see people whose IQs are more than thirty points lower than mine attempting to cite a six-point average IQ advantage as proof of their superior intelligence, and therefore, their belief systems as well. I'm impressed, to be sure, albeit not exactly in the way they intended. An appeal to authority is bad enough, but an appeal to average statistical advantage is insane. |
Too bad Vox didn't read what Myers had to say, lord knows Vox likes to rag on Myers every now and then, as one of those stupid sciencebloggers.
Yeah, the man's a complete prick. Get a load of what he has to say about women.
Oh yes, here's what Myers had to say
Seriously? Show me the error bars on those measurements. Show me the reliability of IQ as a measure of actual, you know, intelligence. Show me that a 6 point IQ difference matters at all in your interactions with other people, even if it were real. And then to claim that these differences are not only heritable, but evolutionarily significant#8230;jebus, people, you can just glance at it and see that it is complete crap. |

And Razib Khan (another ScienceBlogger) finds the results interesting, in a way:Assume the "very conservative" and "very liberal" categories are normally distributed in intelligence. The mean is 95 and 106. What percentage of people within each category are going to have IQs of 130 and above?
0.92% of "very conservative" individuals 5.48% of "very liberal" individuals
...For the smaller gap between very religious and and atheists, you get 1.38% vs. 3.59% above 130. This is somewhat less significant in the USA because only ~5% of Americans are atheists. Though very conservative people outnumber very liberal ones, the ratio is not so lopsided. But what percentage of people at higher IQ thresholds are atheists using the model above? In the general population 5% of people are atheists. But if you constrain to an IQ of 130 or above, 13% are of people are atheists. And while Vox may have a high IQ, it's clear from just the above quote that he doesn't know how to make good use of it. |

| Indeed, the study has no scientific validity. Though there must be some people who take it seriously, I don't know any atheist who does.
I would think Vox Day almost certainly has read what PZ wrote, but is ignoring it in his attempt to build and attack his Straw Man Arrogant Atheist model. Vox is an infamous scumbag who lies and vomits forth his vicious bigotry anytime he gets an opportunity. That he uses this study and ignores what real atheist scientists are saying about it is par for the course.
(And isn't it charmingly cute how Vox uses the issue to vaunt his own "superior" intellect?) |

Holy shit. Get a load of this good christian's rant right here.
Read what he links to. Is his response over the bloody line?
He has one of his tags being women. He likes to talk about some who are really whacked out, but why the fixation in the first place? Why does he bother to have a tag that deals specifically with women? And if you read enough, you'll realize it's not the the "whacked out" ones that he seems to have a problem with. Remember that link to his post complaining about women's rights?
I know that the stupid sciencebloggers have noted this guy's attitude towards women as well as some of his other antics.
Even more funny, look at the bottom left hand side of his blog under the heading Target Rich Environments.
