24% of Republicans (14% overall) think that Obama may be the Antichrist.

I was just about to post that; now i'm pissed.

Listen up, brain-damaged, Republican fruit flies: Obama is not the Antichrist! I am.

Now, go take your meds as prescribed and all will be well, at least until God's shiftless kid gets off his dead ass and comes down here.

Oh, dear. That's millions of people gone bonkers. Well, since Obamacare is now the law of the land, we'll just have to report them to the Death Panels.

Turns out the that Harris Poll was invalid because participants were self-selected, a no-no that makes the survey unscientific and virtually meaningless. Ed Brayton has the details.

Glad to pass that along. The new info doesn't exactly restore my faith in all mankind, but at least Brayton shows this wasn't a good poll.

So in reality, the numbers could be understated! Arrrrhh, the anti Christ is here, the anti Christ is here!!!!! Hooray. Bring on the rapture, so I don't have to be bothered by all them self deceived, self righteous "I'm saved, I'm going to heaven and your not, I'm superior to you because I know the truth" crowd anymore.
Jesus, now I sound as deluded as them. SS

The sad part is that there are people out there who actually believe such fantasia. From the Minnesota Independent:

Some on the far right, including local rightwing radio’s Chris Baker, have likened Barack Obama to the anti-Christ, while others have feared the election of the now-president-elect would hearken “the Obamageddon.” (Snopes.com even has an entry debunking the Obama/anti-Christ claim.) So, is the election of America’s first African-American president bringing on the Second Coming, as advertised? Not according to one gauge, The Rapture Index. The “prophetic speedometer of end-time activity,” unchanged for the first six days following the election, ticked up one point today, to 160. Only one of the website’s 45 indicators — which include floods, famine, “Mark of the Beast” and “the Anti-Christ” — shows a gain: Leadership. A note in this category explains, “Barack Obama’s election victory ensures a new liberal shift is coming to Washington, D.C.”

The index’s record high was on Sept. 24, 2001, just weeks after the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.

Rapture Ready’s Todd Strandberg wrote this morning, “I’ve received dozens of emails pointing out the odd fact that the day after the election, the daily pick-three lottery number in Obama’s home state of Illinois was ‘6-6-6.’” Strandberg says it’s “unlikely” Obama is the anti-Christ, since the “beast of Revelation will come out of Europe.” But he adds, “[E]xpect the prophetic time clock to tick away at a faster rate” in an Obama presidency. The key thing to watch: How he deals with Israel. Strandberg writes:

The Bible warns us that the day will come when Israel is standing by itself against its enemies. For decades, prophecy scholars have wondered what will cause America to become isolated from Israel. Some have wondered if it will be a Russian nuclear attack, while others have thought it might be the impact of the rapture. We can now add the possibility of political change to the list.

The Rapture Index has been above 160 for some part of every year since 2006 (and 2001), yet they list 160 and above as "Fasten your seat belts."

Seems a little "boy who cried 'wolf'" to me.

Brayton's a ruthlessly fair observer, in my opinion. When he finds evidence, even if it contradicts what he's said before, he reports it.

That's rare it seems. Reporting on polls and studies is notoriously bad, most don't seem to even look at the methodology.

So true. Usually the spin on the poll or survey is out before the details of the poll are released. I do recall that PZ Myers was quick to warn people not to take seriously a certain survey that alleged atheists were (slightly) smarter than theists. We need journalists who with take a scientific look at surveys and polls. (Hell, come to think of it, we just need journalists!)
