I tend to agree with Mr. Blow, the current madness may well be a last gasp.

I'll be happy to pass the mustard. Hell, I'll even give them some home-made habanero salsa to take their minds off just how stale that road-kill actually is.

I pretty much agree. The problem is that the country romanticized by the far right hasn’t existed for some time, and its ability to deny that fact grows more dim every day. | I would go further.
The platonic Christian America envisioned by the Teabaggers (which now include the GOP) is a nation that never existed.
In some forms of this astigmatic vision, America was alway mainly white, always spoke English with a country accent, and the few slaves labored happily on plantations, glad to have been evacuated from Africa. Sergent Presley tore down the Berlin Wall on Ronald Reagan's orders, and the Founding Fathers enshrined into the Constitution the right to form religious militias and arm themselves with automatic weapons and pipe bombs.
The raids on the Hutaree armed cult should be received as a call for the Religious Right to get new eyeglass prescriptions. But I have my doubts that many of them desire to see the world as it is. |

I don't like what he's apparently suggesting about the rise in gun sales. There is a widespread assumption among gun enthusiasts that President Obama and the Democratic Congress will push legislations that makes it harder for them to buy guns, and Obama has been consistently rated badly by the NRA, even in the state legislature of Illinois.
Radicalization certainly not the entire cause. I would think it's marginal compared to the reasons above, but I have no statistics. Either way, the author has shown nothing in terms of cause by showing the correlation.
Otherwise, I agree with him. |

I think "the run on guns" was almost entirely due to peoples fears of loosing that right. |

Yeah, increased gun sales are mostly from people thinking the dem congress will enact more bans.

The interesting question is: Is this assumption true? Or is this just another lie spread by forces who are against Obama, in order to swing voters who care more about their right to own guns, than whether Obama could be a good president? |
