When it comes to fiction do you prefer books or movies?

I prefer movies for a variety of reasons. 1. You can't get 1080p HD or digital surround sound from books. 2. If I'm spending my time reading I had better be learning something that is real. 3. If a picture is worth a thousand words then the old argument of " The book is so much more detailed" is null and void.

Thoughts?

I prefer both.

Love movies & books.....no matter the genre

I would rather face a cold reality than delude myself with comforting fantasies.

I love books to simulate my mind and the fact they tend to go deeper into a subject then a movie has time too.

Sound and special effects in a movie are well and good, but attach it to a good story please!

You can't read the mind of the actor, unless like in Dexter, he tells you his thoughts. The book can give you more insight into the characters of the story than the movie does. Also, unless you do it like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you can't use fiction to educate the readers with any depth.

Also, movies and tv-series are also prone to sloppy fact-checking, at least more so than books. I was watching Star Gate SG-1 and it made me cringe when they said that the gravitation increased when a star went black hole. As if it would start sucking up orbiting planets all of a sudden. Sigh.

But I do love visuals, when the script is good. Like Iron Man, or Inglorious Basterds. I'm looking forward to Iron Man II.
Having read Asimov's "I, Robot" more than once, watching the movie made me very very angry and disappointed. I don't pay a dime for the DVD or the BlueRay.
Gang-raping such a good collection of short stories is sacrilege!
