I am taking a six hour road trip this afternoon with my brother-in-law who is an Evangelical Christian. Should be interesteing because he really like to talk to me about religion.
Wish me luck.

Anyone have any questions they would like me to ask him?

I'll report back on Sunday night or Monday morning. I'm sure I will have a lot to talk about.

Haole with heart, thats all I'll ever be. I'm not a part of the North Shore society. Stuck on the shoulder, that's where you'll find me. Digging for scraps with the kooks in line. -Offspring

Yeah. Ask him what the largest lake in the world is. That always stumps them...

How coincidental. We are going to the world's largest freshwater lake!

That would not be an ethical use of my powers. But I can make a psychic prediction if you play. You will not win. There it is...

That would probably be either Lake Michigan-Huron or Lake Superior, depending on if you count Michigan-Huron as one body of water or two.

Alright, I'll bite. What IS the largest lake in the world? Superior?

"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"

Depends on whether freshwater lakes only are considered. If not, the winner is the Caspian Sea -- if by "largest lake" we're talking about surface area.

If we're talking volume, it's deep Lake Baikal for fresh water, the Caspian Sea for salty.

The Caspian Sea should probably be considered a small ocean, actually.

If we're talking surface area only (among freshwater lakes), it's either Superior or Michigan-Huron, depending on whether Huron is considered a part of Michigan, as podcat wrote. (I'd say Michigan-Huron for largest surface area of freshwater lake, since that's really one lake.)

To bad you didn't think to ask a few days sooner. You might have received one or two great ones. No return trip?
I got a notion from a Richard Dawkins comment. He said something like "all theist are 100% Atheist for all other God's, except their own." Taking that I have this question pre qualified by a statement or two, that I ask people who believe a God exist. By default, theist. I start out saying, "There are theists, Christian's, Muslim's, what have you, that sometimes react negatively toward non-theist, more specifically atheists". I then paused to allow them to digest the statement and agree. Then I continued with, "All Christians for example are atheist when it comes to believing in Ra, Zeus, Knish, etc.". I then pause again to allow them to digest that statement and agree. They have always agreed because it's true. Then I ask, "Other than faith because that can justify belief of false gods. What evidence do theists have that makes belief in any God true, when compared to the false belief in other Gods?" I have only had the occasion to try this out about 4 times. I've tried it out only when doing so comes up naturally in conversation. Actually, I phrase it so I not asking them directly but asking them as a member of a larger group of believers.
I got "I don't know" or " Humm, that's a good question". I get them trying to think of an answer yet never got one and leave it at that. The 2000 census of the island where I live was just under 5000. I don't have a lot of opportunity to try this out. Without appearing a local nut.
I would love to hear of anyone's experience who could try this. SS

Getting theist to THINK and justify there beliefs, beyond their hand waving is my intention. SS

There are only two types of religious people, the deceivers and the deceived. SS

That's a very good series of questions, a sort of mind experiment using gods as guinea pigs. I will try to use this myself in the future.

I think the series of questions could originate from the musing of this one quote (from whom, I don't remember. And paraphrased.):

"When you understand why you dismiss all other gods but your own, you will understand why I dismiss yours as well"

Stephen F. Roberts

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
- Isaac Asimov
