If we're talking about the incident, Israel had no business sending a fully armed band of elite fighting troops into a cruiser of 600 people and then crying that they were attacked. Fuck them and fuck you. The American that was killed was shot four times in the head and once in the chest. Once injured, they did not rush the injured to get proper medical treatment. This is news to me. What ordonance did the IHH-ship carry? Where does this information come from?

IHH ship carried slingshots. Once the Israelis boarded, some of them had their sidearms taken away and were shot.
There were some preliminary reports of small arms fire from the ship.

For now, as I understand it, Israeli ships attacked the flotilla by initiating a boarding. Are you surprised that some of the Israeli soldiers got disarmed and their weapons used against them? They were aggressors in a criminal act, and got a violent reaction. By saying "Opening fire on a military ship is inviting return fire." is to only tell half the truth. If you attack me armed to your teeth, I'll try to disarm and pacify you if I can't avoid the confrontation. If I then use your weapon against your helicopter to stop your comrades-in-arms is that surprising?
But was any Israeli military ship close enough to even be remotely threatened by small arms fire? All aggressions during the boarding were initiated by the Israelis by the act of boarding.
You made it sound like it was reported that the IHH-crew started the whole thing.

And it is not unusual for powerful nations to stop and board vessels on the open sea for inspection. China, the United States, Great Britian, Isreal, and others have boarded commercial shipping which they percieved approaching their territorial waters in exclusion zones. These interceptions are usually done in iternational waters because there are few repercussions for this type of piracy. In addition, sometimes ships are engaged in international waters which have aboard contraband items (arms smugglers, drug runners, etc.)
If the commercial vessel does not resist, many of these boardings go on without bloodshed.
Both sides have some culpability. The flotilla had a broadcast intention to make landfall in Isreali controlled waters which had been designated a naval exclusion zone. The ships set to repell boarders. The Isrealis did what they always do. Kill a mosquito with a baseball bat.
The flotilla took a provocative step designed to increase tension in the area. The Isrealis overreacted and insisted on inspecting the cargo bound for Gaza to ensure that no items that they deemed contraband. I will grant you that this list is very broad and counterproductive in more than one spot. |
