As skeptics we are supposed to avoid dogmatism, but there are times when it can be acceptable. Instance: the people who design low-flow toilets are idiots, plain and simple. They can't even spell the word 'hydrodynamics'. Water pressure is entirely dependent upon the depth of the water column, so if you're reducing the flow you should find a way of increasing the depth. In Britain they were doing this years ago by placing the toilet tank up high instead of just above the bowl, and you pulled down on a chain to release the water. I hope they still use this system otherwise it means another country is getting scientifically dimmer. And what brain-dead excuse for a vertebrate designs a tank that releases more water than the bowl will hold?! It means that if there is a blockage there is no possible way that you cannot have an overflow. Stupidity, that's the only reason for such a design. I will not look for nor accept any other explanation. Dogmatic? Yes. But I am right, so I can afford to be.

As you can probably guess I've just spent a frustrating time clearing a blockage and cleaning the resultant mess. I have a 14 year-old son who eats prodigiously and then gives birth to rugby balls. I am NOT happy. Those designers will feel my wrath. To quote Douglas Adams, they'll be the first ones against the wall when the revolution comes.

No shit!!!

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

In my opinion, rugby balls aren't balls.

Ball n. : a round or roundish body or mass: as a : a spherical or ovoid body used in a game or sport.

Sorry it qualifies, and it's easier than saying "semi-spheroid inflated sporting device".

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History

"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini

I've tried being dogmatic but my labrador can out-run me, out-jump me,out-catch me, and out-swim me. The only thing I am better at is throwing.

I like the adjustable toilets, set for #1 or #2. I'd like one with several flows, from light tinkle to Fat Bastard floater.

Rat:

Sounds like you need a pressure- assisted toilet.

My plumber recommended the Kohler Cimarron. I tell you, that baby can take whatever I throw at it. Needless to say, my plumber's in my will.

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"
