PZ Myers has info on how one of the whistleblowers is being treated... Hint: Not fairly at all.

Most regular readers know by now what I think of US military practice... More comments unnecessary. |

To take the bait of the article, I'll ask what exactly is new?
Stories 1-2, I still think are fog of war. I know we've discussed it before and people don't agree, if it's an intentional killing of civilians, it is much more surprising and revealing. Joking about it, yeah, not nice, even if they were legitimate targets, but not criminal nor particularly relevant.
Story 3, attempts to install a friendly government that recognizes civil rights will probably fail, and, even if it were realistic, it would need to come later. They're in over their heads with that goal, absolutely.
Story 4, no justification.
Story 5, everyone spies on everyone.
Story 6, Obama doesn't want bad press for a war he's continuing anymore than Bush wants it for a war he started.
Stories 7, 9, 10, of course the US attempts to shield itself and it's intelligence agencies from foreign court systems.
Story 8, not sure there was any question of Obama compromising his principles with respect to the war.
Story 11, pushing nonspecific number words back and forth, everyone classifying deaths as civilians/combatants to suit their arguments. General weaselly practices.
Story 12, why embarrass the Yemenis by giving that information for no reason? Better yet, why signal to the legitimate militants that Yemen is too weak to handle it?
Story 13, ally has an enemy and asks for quite marginal help -- this is also embarrassing the the Saudis to literally need basic bullets. It's not as if they could not have bought this easily from many sources.
Story 14, no one is clean in the Kashmir conflict. Knowing a specific example of a thing we already knew was happening isn't particularly useful.
Story 15, I see no evidence the British intended to have them do such things.
Story 16, can't open this article, so I don't know.
Story 17, pretty interesting.
Story 18, so they're investigating whether the Honduran coup was illegal, sounds like good work.
Story 19, not a surprise.
Story 20, so what? Sounds like a good strategy, at least when it was secret.
Story 21, little new information of much significance.
Story 22, did we expect trials for these guys? Otherwise, definitely a case of playing with confidentiality status for PR reasons. |
