The celebration of Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday doesn't come until early March, but the devotions have been going on for years. For conservatives, Reagan is the lodestar, the genial demigod to whom all must avow fealty. In a Time cover story, Michael Scherer and Michael Duffy suggest that Obama considers Reagan "The Role Model." Richard Norton Smith, writing about the "Reagan Revelation," attributes Obama's uptick in the polls because he's been "acting positively Reaganesque," reaching out to the business community, scoring bipartisan victories on tax cuts, delivering a sermon in Tucson that Smith calls "worthy of the Great Communicator at his most consoling."

I'm not exactly a Reagan fan, but let's face it, he wouldn't recognise what the Republican party has become. It's shifted so far to the right it's almost off the map.

Yeah, the political polarity of the wing nuts has been cracked up to max ever since Bubba was elected (they impeached him for getting blown in the oval office afterall). The fell off the cliff when we elected a black guy. The GOP of today would call Goldwater, Nixon, and even Joe McCarthy... ultra liberal. Conservatism is dead, replaced by retardavism, and the fallout is that today's liberals would be considered right wing by the standards of 25-30 years ago.

Why does no one like to open links? Have we no curosity?

So ok, here's a little of what you missed:
But take a good look at the conservative mantra that Reagan championed: less spending, low taxes, deregulation, free trade, strong military, family values. On all of these, the Gipper and conservatives got it wrong.

Here is another link on the 100th anniversary of the birth of a senile, second-rate actor, and willing and ignorant tool of the oligarchy. OPEN THE FUCKER!

Oh I read it, which makes my point even sadder. Reagan and his cronies were not good for the country, but if I were American I would prefer them over the current right wing fascists. I wonder if even dubya would recognise the current crop of loonies. They have gone so far so fast it's hard to predict what idiocy they will come up with tomorrow. And I notice that Borosage didn't mention something that would give the righties shit-fits if they were constantly reminded of it; when there was a perceived illegal immigrant problem Reagan solved it by giving them amnesty. That might take their hero down a peg or two in their eyes. Nah, who am I fooling? They would either just ignore it or deny it.

I was just thinking recently why people think Reagan was such a great president. He created a huge deficit, spent defense money on stupid stuff (i.e MX missile "my penis is bigger than your Soviet penis"), raised taxes. What he was really good at was lying.

And let us not forget that he could well have ended up in the federal grey-bar hotel sharing quarters with his partner in crime, GHW Bush.

Don't get me started on the whole missile defense crap that Reagan and W wanted to waste our money on.

Looks likw Ronnie's gonna have a splendid 100th birthday party, what with the annual Big, Fat Football Game and all falling on it. Who knows, maybe alien spacemen will show up, proving that the UFO screwballs are correct after all, and that everything is written in the stars.

Happy 100th, Ronnie! Sorry I didn't bake you a cake, but I didn't have all the ingredients -- I ran short of bullshit. But not to worry, the conservatives and the teabaggers have plenty of that and will, I'm sure, be baking and have a big one ready in time for the Souper Bowl. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, here's something the the conservatives either don't know or prefer to ignore:
But Reagan was not the man conservatives claim he was. This image of Reagan as a conservative superhero is myth, created to untie the various factions of the right behind a common leader. In reality, Reagan was no conservative ideologue or flawless commander-in-chief. Reagan regularly strayed from conservative dogma — he raised taxes eleven times as president while tripling the deficit — and he often ended up on the wrong side of history, like when he vetoed an Anti-Apartheid bill.

ThinkProgress has compiled a list of the top 10 things conservatives rarely mention when talking about President Reagan:

And so forth.

Off topic, but I heard yesterday that the Packers are the only team that is not privately owned and is run as a non-profit. I think I need to verify this, but if true, I might watch the national tribute to orthopaedic surgery and oxycodone after all.

Far as I know that info is accurate filthy. The Pack is the only non profit NFL team.

Yes, I checked it out; it's community owned. Sorta smacks of socialism, doesn't it? But it is the reason that the Packers have never left and will never leave Green Bay.

Now I have a team to support today.

Someone else checked Packer history out, too. And did you know this about the Steelers' helmets?
