I've been following the story of this remarkable young woman since her shark attack in 2003. Of course Hollywood made a movie out of it and I have been waiting for it to be released for quite a while. This morning I ran across this article. I find it quite fascinating that the movie makers would attemp to edit out much of the faith based part of the story. (it was eventually put back in) If anyone is familiar with this story they would know that faith is a huge part of it.
Thoughts?

No different then them adding faith to a faith-lite story or making all of the Asians into white people in the movie '21', Hollywood's unofficial motto on true stories is that the truth only applies to the first draft of the script.
Frankly they are far more egrigious in the opposite direction, how many faith based stories are told without the slightest shread of skepticism? |

What I find fascinating is that the edits were done so that they wouldn't be alienating the non-Christian audience. WTF is that all about? That would be like taking any kind of Satanic things out of the Exorcist so as not to alienate the non-Satanist audience. I'm not following the logic. Do they think that we non-Christians can't handle seeing anything related to faith? |

No they are thinking 88Million$ vs 80Million$, that is as far as they can see. |

It seems like the only things related to faith that were removed from the movie were the words "Holy Bible" on the cover of a Bible and the attribution of a Bible quote to the Bible. If it's a story of faith and centered on Christian faith, then those two "censorings" seem utterly pathetic, and similarly pathetic to complain about. I really expected to learn that an hour of footage had been dropped or something equally drastic, considering how much noise there is about this apparently minuscule event. We know already that lots of Christians have incredibly thin skins and like playing as if they're persecuted, and we know already that people in Hollywood can be rather dense and arbitrary. These aren't surprises, not even when combined. |

Since religiosity is only fluff, they might as well leave it out. It wasn't Jesus who took her arm as a snack.
