Jerry Bergman is coming!
I am thinking of attending. It is a mere 90 minute drive straight down the highway from my house. It's about time I start getting my hands dirty rather than simply opining here on these new fangled internets. There is an outline of what his talk will consist of so it will be pretty easy for me to prepare.
I am unsure of what strategy I will take though. Will I remain silent and just listen? Will I be confrontational? Will I remain calm and relaxed while attempting to refute the nonsense? Does an average ordinary guy like me with only a high school education have enough smarts to outwit the creotards?
I guess we'll find out.

One thing you could do, which can be effective for certain sub-populations, is to go through the outline and try to predictively flesh it out with other Bergman writings and videos already online, and basically check off everything he says that you can find in the Index to Creationist Claims. Take your work with you to the talk, and use them to focus your note-taking (or recording) on sections of his stuff which do not appear in the Index, since that will either be new or different from what's already been indexed, and thus perhaps less boring.
You could then (and I'm just making a suggestion) post the results here, and/or send them to Mark Isaak (editor of the ICC).
Or, you could do the prep-work as above, and then while Bergman is speaking, you could work on getting yourself tossed out of the church by shouting out the ICC section numbers for the crap that's been debunked a million times. Bergman: "Darwin was a racist..." You: "Claim CA005.1!!!" |

Sweet. Hope you have better luck than I did. Mind you, preparation is the key. You sound like you have a good game plan.
Ok, I've read through some of that. Holy ***k, what a tool. Ok...

You may also want to read this article about a creationist eugenicist.
Then, there's articles about Bergman himself.
Yes, it's a lot of reading so you'll have to pick just one or two things that you can use to zing him.
If at all possible, name drop as many of these sources as you can, so that the people there will at least have heard of somewhere they can go to check out what Bergman is saying.
In my row with Sarfati I was able to do that to an extent, though I'm sure no one gave a damn. Edit: Dave's idea of pointing out each index claim number looks good though.
The only way I can think of to ask a question would be to do something like this where you say that: "such and such a point you made (either on the web page or in your lecture here)" is wrong. This is why...etc. so you can get an opening of some sort.
You may also want to point out that his whole damn spiel seems to be an ad-hom fallacious attack on Darwin.
