The grand ceremony is well underway. A prince of England is getting hitched to some chick named Kate, and the media just can't seem to get enough of it. The problem here is that they think we can't either. Nothing could be further from the truth; most people in the US have other things to think about and don't much care what frog (the amphibian, not the French) this Kate kisses.
Filled with music, horses, marching soldiers in funny, antiquated costumes, and amid security that any dictator of a third-world pisspot of a country would envy, I fear that we will be afflicted with the wretched event all day and beyond.
I hate the Limeys. I've hated them ever since 1812, as every American sailor should.

I see no reason why Richard Dawkins should be a reason to hate England. Unless it's envy because England managed to produce such a brilliant professor.
His book "The Greatest Show on Earth" is really great. One of the best non-fictional books I've read, after "A Brief History of Time". |

Lessee, If memory serves, and correct me if I’m wrong, Dawkins is married to Lalah Ward, an actress who starred for a time in the Doctor Who series. I didn't know he was married to her until a couple of years ago. I don't really keep track of that sort of thing, as I am not keeping track now. Maybe I'll get some media news this evening, but I'm not optomistic.
The war of 1812 occurred due to the British Navy's arrogant habit of press-ganging American merchant sailors. They claimed that the sailors were deserters and took them off their ships at gunpoint. And indeed, perhaps some were but it makes no difference.
In a way, I can understand it; at the time, conditions and dicipline aboard the British warships were horrendous. No seaman in his right mind would willingly sign on to one.
And these men were American citizens, regardless.
A merchant seaman could make decent money in the Merchant Marine, but the British paid their victims all but nothing.
