Try this video to see what I mean.

And that guy's a lot more graceful than these traffic directors on Pyongyang, North Korea.

Then, there's the Russian style. Needs a choreographer.

Next up, an American cop directs traffic. Not bad, but the first guy's better.

Lastly, a Swede. But he's disqualified for workin' it in a traffic-free plaza.

I'd give the Yank second place to the Pinoy. But the Pyongyang traffic ladies score high in the "Authoritarian Weirdness" category.

Philippines for the win! I haven't seen any cops get fancy since a guy named Donald retired from the Provincetown force. On warm summer evenings people would stand around the intersection of Commercial and Standish, just waiting for the traffic to get busy enough for Donald to go into his routine. Never got any video of him.

Just did a quick internet check before hitting 'post', and HOLY CRAP! He was still working last year at the age of 83, and he's fighting to keep his job! Apparently he has supporters too, with a facebook page.

Good for Provincetown's Donald Thomas! IMO, they really ought to let Donald keep the job and badge, if not the gun, as long as he's ready, able and willing to safely direct traffic.

I think the "dancers" among traffic directors have real advantages over those who do the minimum of gesturing ad whistle-tweeting. They are far less likely to be ignored, and probably stay healthier. Plus, they make people smile and reduce traffic tensions.
