Martin Gardner was true polymath and a great promoter of science, mathematics and gaming. He was a pioneer of exposing pseudoscience, and ran a column in Scientific American from 1956 to 1981. Gardner may be more recognizable in a photo where he is no longer wearing his WWII Navy "monkey-suit.":
