Mediums and Fortune Tellers Complain of "Shocking New Racket" Pasadena, California, May 2, 2012 (MNN) -- Professional psychics are spreading the alarm about an uncomfortable and shady new type of business that they say promotes and preys upon a confusion with psychics. For the first time ever, medical doctors and skeptics alike are joining with the psychics to publicize these "dangerous and deceptive, unregulated storefront operations."
"They put up these neon signs in store widows proclaiming 'Physics,' said Madame Torphilia, a palm-reader, astrologer and spirit counselor. "The joint looks like an honest psychic's place. A confused or ignorant person (we get a lot of those) might easily confuse that word with 'psychic,' however it's anything but! And in this case that word doesn't refer to atomic science, either. A 'physic' is any method of causing loose stools, by either the use of laxatives or enemas.
"Somebody walks in needing to consult with their deceased mother about their spouse's infidelity," said Torphilia. "Instead, they get a powerful laxative or a hose job. Some customers have gotten a very unpleasant surprise!"
