Yes. But not because they were "primitive" in some incompletely fashioned sense. Primitive here just means early. In fact, the Norse gods have a serious (and sometimes not so serious) following now.

As for Christianity, it's growing in some places and dying out in others. And in the places like Africa where it's growing, it's often mutating so much that it might as well be called something else.
