Charles Dawson

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph 5:15-17)

BINGO! Charles Dawson (anagrammatic Hint #3), amateur archaeologist (Hint #2) and fame-seeker, is now considered the main, perhaps only, conspirator in perpetrating the infamous "Piltdown Man" (Hint #1) hoax.

Per Wiki:
At a meeting of the Geological Society of London held on 18 December 1912, Charles Dawson claimed to have been given a fragment of the skull four years earlier by a workman at the Piltdown gravel pit. According to Dawson, workmen at the site had discovered the skull shortly before his visit and had broken it up in the belief that it was a fossilised "coconut". Revisiting the site on several occasions, Dawson found further fragments of the skull and took them to Arthur Smith Woodward, keeper of the geological department at the British Museum. Greatly interested by the finds, Woodward accompanied Dawson to the site where, although working together between June and September 1912, Dawson alone recovered more fragments of the skull and half of the lower jaw bone.
The Piltdown hoax was doubted by many scientists, but was kept alive for decades by the sheer authority of its supporters and the nationalist factor that England wanted to have a "first Englishman," especially since Germany and France had their own ancient human fossils. The Piltdown skull was simply a modern skull with an orangutan jaw attached and chimp teeth added. These were chemically stained to appear very old. Dawson died long before his hoax was busted in 1953.

One more (very easy) one, folks, then I'll announce the winners for the first 100 Faces!
