Hnt #1: This person professionally explored aspects of a type of "idiocy" referred to by Marx and Engels in Chapter 1 of The Communist Manifesto. |

Hint #2: Abe Simpson called one of his virtual personalities "a tired old freak". (Not an anagram.) |

No, Barney, that's the late Andy Griffith. :) |

| Well, gol-lee! You got it! Congrats, podcat!
Yes, that's Andy Griffith, of the long-lasting Andy Griffith Show and Matlock.
Of his two hit TV shows, The Andy Griffith Show was doubtless the most iconic. Set in the mythical, impossibly gentle, and bumpkin-populated Southern town of Mayberry, the show spent much of its time exploring "the idiocy of rural life" from a comedic viewpoint.
Mayberry somehow did not have the racial tensions that most of small-town South endured during its TV run. As the OP image implied, seeing Sheriff Andy Taylor booking Rosa Parks was just not something that was going to happen in Mayberry. Despite myths, there were always Black people in Mayberry County, but at first they were only "background people." As the series ran on, they began to have major parts.
The Andy Griffith Show and its Mayberry successors introduced many actors into the public's knowledge:
Andy Taylor, Andy Griffith, Sheriff of Mayberry; father (widower) of Opie Opie Taylor, Ronny Howard, Son of Andy Taylor Barney Fife, Don Knotts, Deputy Sheriff of Mayberry Aunt Bee, Frances Bavier, Andy's paternal aunt
Some of the recurring characters were:
Goober Pyle, George Lindsey, Auto mechanic Floyd Lawson, Howard McNear, The barber Helen Crump, Aneta Corsaut, School teacher and Andy's girlfriend in later episodes Howard Sprague, Jack Dodson, The milquetoast county clerk Otis Campbell, Hal Smith, The town drunk who lets himself into the jail to sleep it off Clara Edwards, Hope Summers, aka Clara Johnson, Bertha Edwards; a widow who is Aunt Bee's best friend
The Civil Right Movement of the 1950's and 1960's would have required one pleasant and productive year in the South if all the towns had been like Mayberry, filled with amiable, sometimes irascible, but usually kind-hearted rustics.

Griffith also starred in the movie "A Face In the Crowd" as "Lonesome" Rhodes, a successful and politically influential TV host who is forced off the air due to his controversial and insulting remarks. Thank FSM we don't have anyone in real life like that... |

| Yup, fiction should stay fiction. Unless it's Mayberry, maybe. |

Actually, I think Valiant Dancer was responding to my last comment. As a matter of fact, Keith Olbermann referred to Glenn Beck as "'Lonesome Rhodes' Beck" because of his near similarity to the character.
But an explanation of that would be best left to another thread. Unless there are other comments on the person identified, I would move this topic be closed. |

| Okay, now that makes sense. But I'll leave this topic open just so people can discuss this anyway they like. even if I get confused. |
