Well, given the venom from some animal rights activists, I can. Another possibility is that it's right-wingers who hate Jimmy Carter and everything he stands for. Or maybe they're just idiots. Or, last, maybe this is a joke, but I haven't seen it so far.

As some may already know, The Carter Center has been engaged in a project to wipe out the Guinea Worm, a debilitating parasite that has no other reason for existence other than to reproduce, using humans as an intermediary host. As far as I know it is not used as food by any species, at least not in such significance that it's eradication would cause any negative environmental effects. It is a painful and harmful pest that has caused suffering for centuries.

So what's with these assholes? They actually want us to wring our hands and weep, and fight to save it.

I have spoken out against mosquito eradication as a form of malaria control, but I believe there is good reason; mosquitoes, in both larval and adult form, are an important food source in many ecosystems, and destroying the actual malaria parasite itself would be preferable. But Dracunculus medinensis will not be missed.

Fortunately they seem to be a small group of malcontents, but I shudder to think what even a few could do if they decided to harbour some infected copepods and keep re-infecting waterways around the world.

It's gotta be a joke. The domain appears to be a joke site about the "Seven Deadly Sins." See, for example, Gluttony, which ends with a recipe for double peanut-butter paisley brownies. And check out what they want you to do if you fail their Lust Test.

I'm with you. Eradicate this monster without further ado.

These guys certainly look serious. I mean, it's impossible for me to detect signs that this is a spoof, though hopefully that's what it is. If it's a joke, it's hard to see the humor in it. But if these people are serious, they are the enemies of every human in Asia and Africa where the Guinea Worm has historically existed -- and every mammal there, too.

Second-guessing the spoof questionaire, I scored 90%.

Okay, I went into the domain but didn't go too far, it looked pretty whack. If it's a spoof it's extremely subtle, at least in my opinion.

Occurs to me it may not be intended for humor, but merely as a ploy to get traffic. In that case, clever.

These worms have just as much right to exist as any Panda bear.

The concept of 'rights' is an entirely human construct, it exists nowhere in nature.

Shhh! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! The great and powerful Panda is worth a minimum of 6 guinea worms!

Wow, really. I guess it's a good thing that I am a human, then. Otherwise I'd have looked foolish to be saying that.

Nonsense. The worm is capable of survival at least. But the Panda just refuses to breed. We keep giving it all these resources and we get nothing. I don't even know how much cash I've given Pandas over the years. I don't know how anyone can tolerate pandas after this.

Does a cheetah have a 'right' to catch a Thomson's gazelle to feed its young? Or does the gazelle have a 'right' to escape from the cheetah?

Yes, they do. It's in the enforcing of those rights where things get interesting.

you didn't read what the rat wrote. the guinea worm only causes harm and does not benefit the ecosystem in any way. Pandas are not causing human suffering
