I feel like having an argument. Here are some positions I'm willing to defend:
1) Nine times out of ten, similes in popular music signify lazy songwriting.
2) For bacon, no need for the Five-Second Rule, use the Five-Minute Rule instead.
3) Money is actually more important than time.
Got any debates eating at you? Anyone up for a fight?

I don't know what kind of debate I could provide as I consider all three above provisionally true.
Looking back at my old rock-and-blues band I used to play in, none of the lyrics I wrote relied in similes, but the guitarist's had some.

For bacon the 5 second or 5 minute rule would not even occur to me. My only thought would be why is there bacon in the house, on my floor. I have not had it in the house for 30 years, when I eat out it is not the breakfast meat I'd choose, and if it comes on a sandwich it was from my not reading the menu as closely as I should have. So I would clean it up and throw it out to whatever critter happens by that may enjoy it more than I. |

3) Money is actually more important than time.
| Nonsense!
Money is worthless without the time to use it. If I give you a million dollars but only a second to spend it, the money is essentially valueless. However, a man who has time can earn a potentially unlimited amount of money. So, clearly time is more important. |

The vast majority of people don't have a million bucks to spend in any amount of time. The 99% have amounts of money which they could, potentially, spend in some fixed period of time.
And 100% of people only have a certain amount of time. For most of them, spending more money won't get them more time, because they will be struck down by accidents or sudden fatal heart attacks.
However, by spending some of that time doing particular things - like working out a strict budget, or slowing down their commute to save gas - they can increase their buying power, and thus increase their quality of life in the time they have left. Or put money away for their kids.
Time can be traded for money, but not the other way around. |
