Hey, a fellow gamer! Former DAOC player here. I've tried City of Heroes, quickly bored of it and canceled. And now I'm playing the Call of Duty expansion while I wait for my pre-order of World of Warcraft to ship.

I know what you mean about in-game navigation. Whenever playing Tomb Raider I had a natural talent for remembering how to backtrack through a labyrinthine cave or temple, yet I routinely forget local street names. Don't even bother to ask me my high school teachers' names, because those are long gone. I never forget a movie or book, though.

Now that I think about it, I guess it's mostly real life that doesn't imprint so well.

tksgurl (tk's girlfriend), claiming to be an expert (or something close to that) in biochemistry, brought up something called ccdi9. I can't find a single refrence to it on google, I was wondering if anyone else has heard of it.

Get her to post a link to info, and maybe some additional info to place it in context.

It's probably not stated in the correct notation either, hard to get sub/super scripts to work on most forums.

No kidding. A fellow roleplayer! Although I stick to play-by-post rpgs all across the web, it's good to know :)

Warcraft is a wonderful game. Yes it is. Better than Spacecraft, which was too dark for my poor old computer.

I'm also a former role-player, though I did it "the old-fasioned" way: AD&D, Warhammer FRPG. Some Call of Cthulu, Harn, StarWars, Cyber Punk.

I also enjoyed the computergames, it started with Eye of the Beholder I & II, Baldur's Gate and such, but also Warcraft and Starcraft. Not much online gaming though, except Mechwarrior3.

Me too! AD&D, Star Frontiers, Marvel. But it's hard to find people to play the paper-and-pencil way much anymore. The computer games are good, though, so I do lots of that now.

So there I was, reading SkepticTimes threads, and their server craps out on me. Sheesh.

tksgurl uses a horrible strawman of "macroevolution" in the thread where you point out you've asked about "ccdi9" twice already. Evolutionary theory does not say that dogs evolved into cats (or vice verse, I can't recall now). It says that cats and dogs had a common ancestor. This page suggests that the feline/canine common ancestor existed perhaps as much as 33 million years ago.

It may be true that tksgurl has a masters in biochemistry, but that apparently doesn't make her any sort of expert on evolution, if she can flub (or purposefully misrepresent) such a basic evolutionary point. And how much more "complex" biochemistry is than biology is just a red herring - it doesn't matter. She's all over the map with logical fallacies, and pointing out fake ones that you've allegedly committed, Ricky.

The fact that she refuses to tell you what the heck "ccdi9" is says that she's completely uninterested in anything but being right at all costs, even if she's wrong. Coupled with the fact that no other creationists are publishing anything about "ccdi9," it says she's either invented it, or is thinking of something else but unwilling to admit to her mistake.

With the damn server down, it's hard to tell more.

And as for the "side thread" going on here, I'm an old-school RPGer, myself. Lots of AD&D, and I've written text-based adventure games. Lots of fun, that.

hehe yeah. Life kinda intrudes on the lifestyle of pen&paper gaming at some point. Used to do alot of it, nowdays I still associate with the old crew, still game from time to time.... but it's just not a priority for me.

MMORPG's I'v played.... in order...

The Realm
Meridian 59
Everquest
Anarchy Online
DAOC
Shadowbane (quit this one after the free month was up... sucked)
City of Heros

Don't currently have any active game accounts, but probably will when World of Warcraft goes live. Play with a great group of people in DAOC, and most will be setting up shop in WoW.

Ricky, if you can get atleast the context out of tk's girlfriend (for the ccdi9) I can try to look it up in a database I have access to through school. Find out, if you can, if it's a gene, protien, ect... and get the correct notation. Better yet if she'd provide a description of what it's supposed to be/do/ect...

And what was here specific argument? What was this ccdi9 supposed to prove or disprove?

Ignorance is preferable to error; and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing, than he who believes what is wrong.

First of all, thanks for the backup Dave and Dude. Being alone on that entire forum, well, its difficult.

This is the link where tksgurl attempts (but fails) to explain ccdi9. Is it just me, or does it make no sense:

Ricky, I have to hand it to you man. I have no idea how you keep your composure in that forum. Hendrix is a complete tool who only chimes in with a useless "You're wrong just accept it" or "Haha evolution is so lame" when it suits him. He is the type that absolutely revel in their own ignorance.

And tksgurl, after you politely ask her to explain further, has the fucking nerve to write: "it's really pointless as you won't understand anyway. i have a master's degree in biochemistry and in no way can someone who doesn't know the basics understand."

I would have gone off on that bitch. She is clearly blowing smoke. No one is that fucking condescending and unhelpful unless they are purposely trying to obfuscate. Tell her and tk the point doesn't stand until she can either back up her statements or provide a direct link to material which explains her exact terms. (Otherwise she might throw you a whole textbook and say "read this for starters.") Her statement that "macro evolution is being less and less accepted" in biochemistry circles is provably false.

And not that I know anything on the subject, but this was her explanation:
quote:
macro evolution according to gradualism :
w w0 w1 w2 w3 w4 w5 w6 w7 w8 w9 x

where: w - cat, x- dog

you will have variations until you the dog starting with cat according to gradualistic evolution. of course, that is just an example pattern.

however, what biochemists are learning is that based on ccdi9 and biochemical complexity this is false. we'll take the same example:

Code:
w w0 w1 w2 w3 w4 w5 |ccdi9|

That is not a fucking explanation! That is an example pulled out of her notes that she copied from a blackboard! w and x only have values because she assigned them in the first example. Now she adds a new term (ccdi9), but fails to explain what is represents. It's obviously shorthand for some concept or process. You'll never google anything on it because it's not known by that. (Whatever it is she's referring to.) She's jerking your chain. She can easily tell you what the hell her shorthand means, if she understood it at all herself, which isn't clear.

Or at least that would be my (unquestionably uninformed) take on it. I do, however, know that no evolutionary model would ever have a cat turning into a dog, so at least tell her to get a better example.

Ahh! I can't go to that forum anymore. It's bad for my blood pressure. Best of luck to you, Ricky.

P.S. Dr. M started a new game thread, so I'll quit trying to hijack this one.

For what it's worth: I'm familiar with the subject of biochemistry and this "explanation" makes no sense to me either. The "biochemical complexity"-claim smells like Behe warmed over though.

'Yes' said Tiffany.

'yes?'

Since tkster already edited my first post for moderation-purposes, here's my second post to the forum, in case you wonder what else may be edited... Too bad you can't rely on tkster being honest.

quote:
Dr. Mabuse: Thanks for letting readers know that you have edited my post. Usually in forums, the moderator doing editing leaves a note saying that the content has been modified. That way readers will know that something has been left out and may PM the writer for info on what have been removed. I find this "undercover" editing dishonest.
I have as yet only made one post, and already I'm considered a troll.
Please indicate how I misquoted: the words are there letter by letter.

Now to the subject of ccdi9: You are ascribing it revolutionary effects, yet no one outside this board has ever heard of it. All I've seen in this thread are some 'W's 'X's and numbers in a series that I can't relate to any knowledge I have regarding chemistry or biology. It doesn't show up on a Google search, so I can't find any other source on it either.

As long as I can't get a reasonable explanation of what it is, a protein with this or that characteristic, a chemical process involving copying, what else, I will dismiss ccdi9 as a bogus claim.

As long as I can't reviev evidense of ccdi9 as factor in punctuated equilibrium I will remain skeptical to hannah's claims.

Their forums are now locked if you aren't a member, so the link Ricky posted no longer works if you simply want to view the discussion without joining.

Well, looks like I just might get banned by association:

i've seen where ricky posts at this place called skeptic friends. he and a few others have come over here. anyhow, read this link.

you will find people who are close minded, who refer to hannah as a "b"-word just because she basically refuted some of their evidence, and pretty much are immature all around. is it time to let these guys go? they don't want to open their mind, but rather come over here and argue. personally, after refuting many of their claims, i am getting sick of them misquoting us, calling us names at other places, or pretending we haven't presented any evidence when we've presented a ton they just won't listen.

i am a moderator and i motion for a ban.
