I often wondered what the big deal was if Jesus and Mary Magedaline were married and had children? Could not even God love and have sexual realtions with a woman.... I mean shit they do in every other religion... Where did this negativitey on God and Woman stem from in Christianity... Is not Love and Sex a natural part of our lives... I mean if one believes we are created in Gods image would not love and sex then also be a part of God... As well as humanity... Now if you want to say that maybe there would be the posssibility of one of the most famous man in histories lingeage hanging around ... welll that could be a big deal.... but that has been a school of thought for many centuries now... what originated with Joseph of Arimethia.... the Knights Templar... the Masons.... My mother has told me of this myth since I was a little girl... Do I believe them.... Anythings possible I guess.... Oh wait that is another thread...

Was she really a whore? or was that made up by the Early Christian Church?

Who knows? The Bible is filled with myth and legend, and yet gives us something of an overview of what life in the times were like.
But why not? As it has yet to be demonstrated that Jesus was the son of God, and assuming that MM was a foxy chick, and further assuming that both of these people actually existed, what is there to stop them from marrying?

Did she even exist? Like I said, I did read the DaVinci Code. |

No apologies necessary, Storm. I think you missed my point.
I don't believe in God, and I don't care how Mary Magdalene brought home the bacon. However, it is a widely held Christian belief that she was a prostitute (though the Bible never says so), which makes it pretty easy to see why the faithful would take issue with such a union.

Great isn't it? I'm hearing rumours that Tom Hanks bought the rights for making it a movie... I'd love to see it. More talk here......

Actually, that would have been further evidence of "love and forgiveness". Those are GOOD things.
There was plenty of opportuninity for a wife and kids to emerge in the writings but none exsists in the Bible. No mention, hint, or clue is made in the "un"-cannonized writings either.
The "Big Deal", though, is the one made by the publishers to sell books. |

Indeed, you're right.
But we must not forget that merely because the Bible omits something is not cause to say that it never happened.
If nothing else, it's a good story.

Ah, but what a good marketing campaign. By having Fundies(tm) froth at the mouth over the book, people are going to ask what all the fuzz was about, buy it to read it for themselves. That's the reason I read the book. And I loved it. |

Indeed! Actually, I had just closed the book when I saw this thread - talk about timing I don't think Tom Hanks clicks with the role of Robert Langdom, though. Dunno. He's a great actor, but... |

In light of jesus's squirrelly pronouncements on the subject of human sexuality, the idea that he ever got any kind of action is highly unlikely. He had to have been a celibate - or a hypocrite. |
