You gotta believe these redneck crackers, the Louvin Brothers, about Satan. After all, here they are performing from Hell.
According to Wiki, "Elvis Presley was a huge fan of the Louvin Brothers, until an intoxicated Ira called him a 'white nigger.'"
Doesn't Satan look a bit like Bugs Bunny? Or is it the other way around?

I haven't contributed since I had that major harddrive crash a few years ago. Thanks for reminding me, Dave. I've thought about re-installing something like this, and now it's done.
Edited to add: While a hit on SETI will have a distictly higher impact on science, philosophy, and religion in particular, Folding@home is grunt work with immediate applications. The probability of a hit and discovery with SETI is low, I'd rather use the time on Folding, until the sensitivity of the SETI-arrays is improved a couple of magnitudes. What is the theoretical limit of the SETI-program today? Anyone keep track? |

Right now, as I understand it, the main problem is filtering noise (angel-chatter, mostly) from signal (aliens sending threatening broadcasts to one another).

January/February/March last year was a bad couple of months where my hip was concerned. I couldn't operate the clutch on my car without pain, so I bought myself a car with automatic transmission. Ever since then I've had my old car out for sale. Today I finally got it sold, at $5500USD, which was almost $1000 more than the lowest price I was prepared to go to. That's only a $1000 shy of loan I have on the new car. YAY! |

I set up two machines last night, one for SETI and one for Folding@Home. I'll get another couple going in the next couple of days. I joined the SFN folding team, but I imagine I won't show up until I've completed a WU or two.
As to the folding, I'm pretty sure this isn't this SFN. If there is still a SFN team, I'm happy to jump on there, otherwise I'll give my points to the Australian Skeptics Team.

Nailed it on my fourth attempt... It wasn't until my fourth attempt I read that my target speed was supposed to be below 5 fp. |

555 fps at my first attempt at speed crash, 601 fps in my second attempt. Medium level of course.
Changing difficulty level to easy, I got an impact speed of 928 fps |

To all, did I see, for a brief second, a post from our dear friend Big Brain regarding those "NASA Buffoons"? |
"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"
"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?" |

Dangit, I didn't even think about switching to easy...
Okay, my first three tries on easy were 928, 935 and 920 fps.
The difference in difficulty levels appears to be how much fuel you get. My one try at high impact speed on very high difficulty only reached 336 fps.

Like Mab, I made my first "good" landing on attempt #4. Only out by 2 fps on #3. As to maximum terminal velocity, I only tried once, but got -595 on medium level. I guess it's just a matter of how quickly you can hit "full" after hitting "start", unless there's some small randomness or other chaotic behaviour in the model.

I think so, also. The first couple times I tried it, I got in the high 500s, but after that, I had many attempts which were only in the high 400s (all on medium). Then I realized that I hadn't switched back to "real time" after going to 10X speed. So as far as the simulation was concerned, it was taking me ten times as long to click "full" after clicking "start" for those trials, resulting in a hundred fewer feet-per-second at point of impact. |
