A key, longtime, pro-Iraq war Republican Congressman who has in the past strongly opposed any timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, is now changing his tune, or at least a few crucial notes of it.
Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Connecticut,
Under pressure from anti-war Democratic candidate Diane Farrell, Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut now sings:quote:
We should be able to tell the American people what kind of timeline we can have to begin to draw down our troops," he said. "It may be a timeline the American people don't want to hear. It may not be something that brings them out quickly."
It seems that war supporters in Congress, may be getting nervous. The Republicans have been lying about the progress of this conflict all along, and claiming that Americans support the war as part of the war on terrorism. But when it comes down to brass tacks and election time, some of these guys are beginning to get gun-shy, and are trying to repent for their years of sinning. Yet another sign of the sea-changes coming for this November's House and Senate races and the 2008 Presidental election.
