Right, because it's less important to save lives than it is to ensure they're right with Jesus when they die.

Seriously, try using this "logic" on any other topic.

"I decided that we're not going to get caught up in the whole poverty thing, because our attention will be elsewhere. If we spend all our money and time feeding and clothing the sick, who'll pay for the bibles?"
And one wonders-- "if we get caught up in the premarital sex thing, we're not going to be able to reach the masses of souls for Christ." Yeah. So I guess they'll stop harping on that, too.

Somehow, I doubt it.

Say, any chance Falwell's promise not "to get caught up in the global warming thing" means that fundies will stop arguing against it on message boards? Because one must remember, global warming denial proganda is all over the fundy literature, right up there with evolution denial. It's in their textbooks and has even been in some of the legislation they've tried passing.

Seen that way, Falwell's comments might be considered a step backward on this issue. Sure, they might not consider curbing GW a primary objective, but maybe they're at least done pretending it isn't happening.

Well, one can hope anyway.

Apologies if i have missed something in the last 11 pages but it mainly seemed to be back and forth between Bill and the rest of the SFN.

I have always believed CO2 as causative in global warming and i definately thing we need to be more careful of finite resources, however over here in England there was a show on TV (great source of research i know) that seemed to provide some pretty compelling arguments that global warming is caused by solar flares rather than CO2.

See the arguments here:
http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/G/great_global_warming_swindle/index.html

If someone could shoot down the arguments one by one i would be grateful, if not then i'm going to start saving for that Hummer...

p.s. if untrue how poor a peice of journalism is this, surely there should be some sort of award?

You can always find a few scientists who will believe, or at least say, anything, especially if they are paid to do so. The producer of that show is Martin Durkin, whose bio at Wiki gives me much cause for suspicion.

From the link above...

quote:
A detailed look at recent climate change reveals that the temperature rose prior to 1940 but unexpectedly dropped in the post-war economic boom, when carbon dioxide emissions rose dramatically.

Conveniently ignoring dust particles also released during that time period.
Dust particles that acts like shielding (compare with atomic winter scenario) the planet from an amount of radiation that would warm the planet.

quote:
In the greenhouse model of global warming, heat from the sun's rays is trapped by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. If it weren't for these gases, Earth would be too cold for life.
This is no argument against Man Made Global Warning, rather it panders to the uninformed suggesting that scientists are lying about Global Warming. Which they aren't.
There's no sectret that the climate on earth depends on a certain amount of green-house gasses. However, what we need is balance. The average temperature of earth would be many degrees below freezing without the atmosphere. Current introduction of CO2 through fossile fuels is upsetting this balance.

I especially liked this from the Wiki article
quote:
Durkin was also questioned by the Independent newspaper regarding the origins of a graph of global temperatures in recent years that was crucial to his argument. He was also quoted in the independent as saying "The original Nasa data was very wiggly-lined and we wanted the simplest line we could find"

If you don't like the data just change it.

The denial continues in the GOP

quote:
House Republican Leader John Boehner would have appointed Rep. Wayne Gilchrest to the bipartisan Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming -- but only if the Maryland Republican would say humans are not causing climate change, Gilchrest said.

quote:
"Roy Blunt said he didn't think there was enough evidence to suggest that humans are causing global warming," Gilchrest said. "Right there, holy cow, there's like 9,000 scientists to three on that one."

What irk me is for the press to call the deniers skeptics when the deniers do not use reason and they distort facts and quotes.Has anyone anything to state about the swindle that is the documentary " the great global warming swindle?"

Fr. Griggs rests in his Socratic ignorance and humble naturalism. Logic is the bane of theists.Religion is mythinformation. Reason saves, not a dead Galilean fanatic.

There's plenty of criticism within the Wiki article on the film.
