Having laughed at Halfmooner's Moonscape News, I felt like starting a thread about sidekicks.

What I'd like to know is what sidekicks you like, in different categories.

My nomination for coolest sidekick: Jayne in Firefly.

It's been hard times for sidekicks recently. Lancaster, to be honest, has picked a pathetically easy target this time, and is merely hounding the scattered survivors of a doomed tribe.

The problem, of course, is leadership, or rather the complete lack thereof. This is a class of people perpetually looking to take orders from more heroic, smarter, more assertive people. When they tried to band together a few years back in the Sidekick Friends Network, the organization almost immediately collapsed.

This is SOOOO embarrasing. After reading Moonscape news I was under the impression that this thread was about sidekicks that should be erased from the annals of history. Serves me right for not even reading the name of the thread.

New suggestion:

Excellent suggestion -- one of my favorites.

Here's another sidekick:

Jayne and Igor are excellent suggestions. Kind of hard to top, although Jayne would almost qualify as a main character.

One I've always liked is Jake (Jack Elam) in Support Your Local Sheriff (although if we go into character roles, I would also nominate Joe Damby (Bruce Dern) in the same movie).

Hmmmm . . . more recent, besides the top two, I would have to say Sam should rank up there (Frodo got the credit, but I just wanted to slap the shit out of him for all his whining - both in the book and the movie). I also like Damon Wayans in The Last Boyscout, oh . . . Andre the Giant in Princess Bride.

Too many . . . Norton in the Honeymooners, Friday in Robinson Crusoe, Tonto, Kato (Green Hornet) . . . I could go on.

Good question! Brought back a lot of memories and gave my wife and I a great half hour of joint effort in remembering characters that at one time or another were dear to us. Many still are.

Baldrick in Blackadder. Definitely the sidekick king.

Here's a few that come to mind…

Gene Wilder as Jim (The Waco Kid) in Blazing Saddles.

Leo Carrillo (among others) as Pancho in The Cisco Kid series.

Leonard Nimoy as Spock in Star Trek

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
