I'm putting this in here because it fits so well on too many other pages.
Religion: like a glove with a fresh booger in the thumb. Politics: certainly vile enough and filled with low-lifes. Humor: I chuckled all the way through it.
So you see, I'd no choice at all, but to put it in General Discussion....
quote: Rev. Pat Robertson still draws politicians like a moth to a flame. Apparently if you're running for president or heading up the DNC, making a stop at The 700 Club or appearing with Crazy Pat is still on your "to-do" list, despite a long record of Robertson's outlandish, intolerant, and inappropriate commentary.
Mitt Romney will be delivering a commencement address at Pat's Regent University. Two weeks before Romney, Rudy Giuliani will stop by Regent to pay homage to Pat. He will be the featured speaker at the University's Executive Leadership Series on April 17.
John McCain sucks up to Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network on The Straight Talk Express bus, bleating about his need to garner the evangelical vote, and his courting of the fringe right. ("I have had meetings with [Southern Baptist Convention President] Dr. Richard Land. I have met with Reverend Jerry Falwell. I have had good conversations with [Evangelical leader] Reverend [John] Hagee. There are many others.")
I think that it is a sad commentary on the American body politic, and Homo sapiens in general, that such a clod as Robertson can even survive, much less wield influence.
I think that it is a sad commentary on those polititions, R & D, who suck up to such mendatious offal. It will be a source of satisfaction to me to see them fail, as they surely will. When you bed down with swine, you cannot avoid smelling like the sty.

It seems to me to be mostly, maybe only, Republicans that are kissing Robertson's hoary ass. These idiots have learned nothing from the massive NeoCon repudiation of the 2006 elections. Except for Brownback, who is so fascist that he has no other base, I suspect if one of the GOP presidential candidates denounced Robertson and the other far-right, fundy Christian Chrazies, he might actually improve in the polls, and be noticed with relief by both moderates and dissatisfied old-style Conservatives in the Party. But there a GOP tradition of continuing to try anything that worked in the past, regardless of the fact it's stopped working in the present. Any Democrat who kisses up to the Religious Right would lose my support, but I haven't seen one try this yet. |

The vote whores can't pass up his PTL following and all the millions. And Robertson isn't above taking that money he gets in return either.
So our tax dollars go to "faith based" programs of Robertson's despite the fact Robertson was convicted of diverting charitable funds to buy equipment for his S African gold mine, and Robertson donates some back to support the politicians that make sure he gets his funds.
Who said we didn't have public funded campaigns?
