CNN had this story (first video at the top of the page, as of this posting) handed to them on a silver platter. They could have had a wonderful piece, having great fun with the absurdity of Ken Ham's Creation "Museum." Instead, the CNN people simply seem to have read and repeated Ham's press briefings.

Standing in front of a hilariously absurd display with animatronic dinosaurs and kids, the reporter keeps a straight face and baldly states that the Ham's "museum" simply shows the Biblical side of the debate, and that those who run it want people to know about evolution, too. I can't imagine even Faux News doing a more Creationist-friendly reporting job. There have been many lows in CNN's reporting, but this reaches a new nadir, even for them.

That was a terrible bit of reporting, even by CNN's standards.

So when are they going to run a story promoting the anti-Holocaust musuem?

Damn thats a good quote

Just as soon as 25% of Americans, most of whom are pandered to by Republicans, start being Holocaust deniers.

I just posted this comment to the video at the site HalfMooner linked:

quote:
Hello Tom.

This little piece reminded me of a story a while ago on Paula Zahn, where CNN slapped together a panel of three Christians to discuss why atheists are such a distrusted minority.

There's not much "balance" in your report of this exhibition, but sounds more like a free advertisement of the facility. If I didn't knew better (and I don't), I would have guessed most of your script was copied verbatim from one of Ken Ham's promotional leaflets.

There has never been any archaeological evidence that man lived side by side with dinosaurs.

"Creation Science" is a misnomener, because there is nothing scientific about it. Creation is competing with Evolution on the Science-track the very same way a toddler is competing with a World Champion in Decathlon.

By presenting this "museum" as a serious comment on current historical and scientific teaching is making me laugh in disbelief. Insisting on calling this a "museum"... I can't think of anyone I know in my part of the world who doesn't consider the US a laughing stock just for stunts like these.

Where is your journalistic integrity? This is a private enterprise to promote an agenda. Not a single comment from a representative of a real museum, like the Smithsonian... Why?
Will you ever throw anything but soft balls at these extremist Christians and their agendas?

I hope it gets published, though I'm skeptical.

Thanks. I realised now that I forgot to spell-check what I wrote. And I'm not completely satisfied with the ending as this was a quick slap-together-a-response kind of thing. But it conveys my general feelings.

CNN used to be regarded highly in Sweden, as a reliable source of international news. But since these latest stunts, those you mentioned on the forum, Halfmooner, I've quickly lost any and all respect for it.

From now on, BBC will be my primary non-Swedish source of International news. I trust the news-agencies in Sweden to do fair and balanced reporting. Only few instances have I felt the need to find alternative sources of information, and rarely (if ever, I can't recall any instances) have claims proved to be false.
Swedish radio (3 Nation Wide channels) and TV (2 Nation Wide channels) news are run as a state sponsored (though unpolitical) public service. As such, there is no corporate agenda controlling the outlet.

But that's a completely different discussion. Please forgive my Off-Topic.

Ham panders to those who prefer to have others do their thinking for them. More and more, our national media do as well, and both prosper from them. Historically, same ol', same ol'.

So how do you revive a tent?

So how do you revive a tent?

You install a brimstone preacher in it and pump him up with money.

But what is worth seeing is the congregation, if you can call it that, as they file out. Some of them look like they've been hit in the head, which, of course, they have been. Unfocused eyes, rictus smile -- the whole bit.

Quite frankly, some of them scare hell out of me.
