It is only logical that one first visits the glorious shores of France to refresh with wine and cheese before sipping tea with those silly English persons.

I wonder what speed they use for calculating the swimming time:
Drive: 3,938 mi (about 29 days 10 hours)

Good one, Dude. For some people (like me), google automatically defaults to the domain adress in the country in which they reside (mine goes to google.co.nz instead of google.com) and these people might not get the "maps" option. Try maps.google.com straight away instead (takes you straight to Dude's second step).

Google also provides a Link to this page feature. Yet another reason to love Google.

My favorite part of it is step 25:

quote:
Slight right at E05

Apparently, you're supposed to swim to a very certain part of England, but they don't tell you where.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

France, Ricky. If you click the "25" to the left of "slight right at E05," it'll bring up a little map of that step, so they do actually tell you exactly where you're supposed to come ashore.

It looks like at step 41, you're supposed to start driving through the Chunnel.

And apparently, Google thought one ocean would be enough. Attempting to drive from LA to Tokyo doesn't result in a similar joke across the Pacific.
