From SlashDot:
quote: "Netcraft is showing that an event happened in the Ohio 2004 election that is difficult to explain. The Secretary of State's website, which handles election reporting, normally is directed to an Ohio-based IP address hosted by the Ohio Supercomputer Center. On Nov. 3 2004, Netcraft shows the website pointing out of state to a server owned by Smartech Corp. According to the American Registry on Internet Numbers, Smartech's block of IP addresses 64.203.96.0 – 64.203.111.255 encompasses the entire range of addresses owned by the Republican National Committee. Smartech hosted the recently notorious gbw43.com domain used from the White House in apparent violation of the Presidential Records Act, from which thousands of White House emails vanished. Can anyone suggest a good explanations for this seemingly dubious election-eve transfer?"
Is this tin-foil hat territory, or something else?

I've heard some speculation the attorney firings included concern about investigating Ohio voting irregularities. I have an ear open but it seems like no fires are being lit about this issue regardless of the evidence.
I think a bit of, "it can't happen here", comes over people when they hear about rigged presidential elections in the US.

quote: Netcraft FAQ:
Who are Netcraft? Netcraft is an Internet services company based in Bath, England. Netcraft is funded through retained profit and derives its revenue in the following ways:
* Providing network security services, including application testing and automated penetration testing. * Providing research data and analysis on many aspects of the Internet. Netcraft has explored the Internet since 1995 and is a respected authority on the market share of web servers, operating systems, hosting providers, ISPs, encrypted transactions, electronic commerce, scripting languages and content technologies on the Internet.
Netcraft has a cosmopolitan client list, spread through the UK, the USA, mainland Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin America. Clients include Aegon, American Express, AMP, Britannic, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless, Capita, Credit Suisse, Dell, Deloitte & Touche, Energis, Elsevier Science, GCHQ, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Interland, John Lewis, Lloyds of London, Macromedia, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Northern Rock, Oracle, Rackspace, Securicor, Sun Microsystems, Verisign, Virgin, Visa, and Vodafone.
It's totally over my "allocated for computer tech" brain space.
Can you explain in lay language how this event was found, who found it and what it supposedly means? I tried looking at Netcraft news and searching for Ohio but got nothing.
