Finally! Someone who's going to...prove God's existence, absolutely, scientifically, without mentioning the Bible or faith. It'll be streamed live on May 5th, and taped for Nightline.
Anyone want to bet on how many times bananas will be mentioned?

I don't expect anything too profound from those two. Their website www.hollywoodblasphemy.com reminded me of the recent attempts in Pakistan to eliminate Muslim "blasphemy". Talk about American Taliban.
For some reason I don't understand, since I'd have to buy one of their books, they blame some event in 1968 for the corruption of up-till-then-pure hollywood. I quote:
"But something went terribly wrong. In 1968 a serpent appeared in the garden. Movies became filled with blasphemy, adultery, and violence. The bright light that once was became a gross darkness, and Hollywood began to suffer the ultimate delusion of grandeur. It enthroned itself as God and began to spout blasphemy against the heavens. It became a law to itself. It answered to no one. Not even God. So they believed.
-What was it that made the Columbine killers and mass murderer Cho Seung-hui hate Christianity? -Why did the crime rate triple in the U.S. in the late 1960s? -What was it that Hollywood did in 1968 that changed everything? "
I don't know, release 2001:A Space Odyssey?
There is so much wrong in just this small sample (details upon request) that its hard to think that these guys will bring anything relevant to the "debate". (I know we all mostly knew that already, but the stuff on their web site is so stupid I just HAD to point it out. That banana thing may be the best they've got).

Why 1968 of all years? Is that proof that Arthur C. Clarke is the Antichrist? |

I bet the "C." is a 6 letter name, just like the other two. |

quote: "Most people equate atheism with intellectualism," Comfort added, "but it's actually an intellectual embarrassment. I am amazed at how many people think that God's existence is a matter of faith. It's not, and I will prove it at the debate - once and for all. This is not a joke. I will present undeniable scientific proof that God exists.
Okey-dokey, you got proof, lay it on me!
But if it's the same, tired old dreck, as I am willing to give odds that it is, you might just as well save it for the rubes. I've heard it all before.
Oh, wait.... They are going to toss the same, old dreck out to the rubes, of course. It's SOP and they can safely ignore or shriek down any and all who actually give it some thought. And where have we seen that before?

I hadn't even bothered to look at their site.Pointed profanity--this includes the words “God,” “Lord,” “Jesus,” “Christ” (unless used reverently), “Hell,” “S.O.B.,” “damn,” or every other profane or vulgar expression, however used--is forbidden.
Hollywood is no longer restricted by the code. Apparently, hollywoodblasphemy.com isn't restricted by the code, either. Hypocrites. Let's not forget Gone with the Wind, either.
Hey, let's check what the Childcare Action Project has to say about movies prior to 1968... Well, they don't have many reviewed:Only the first two earned "Green Lights" from the CAP folks. Rebel, Commandments and War are chock full of violence. Even Shaggy had 6.1 violent acts per hour. The 1968 "start" date is nonsense. |

So, who's impressed?

I too, hadn't looked at the site until just now. It's pretty intense with lots of wailing, hand-wringing, and, I dunno, gnashing of teeth in the background. Cynicsm, thy name is "da filth" 'cause it looks to me like a sneaky promotion for the book.
Is this what hanging around Hollywood does to you? Makes you go all evangelical & shit?

The God side folks tout the Evidence Based Bible
In there, what is claimed to be evidence I have to assume are the footnotes. In Matthew the first footnote reads, quote: 1:1 Some point to the different genealogies of Jesus as “errors” in the Bible. However, Matthew gives the paternal genealogy of the Messiah (through His legal father), and Luke (3:23) gives His maternal genealogy (through His mother).
OK, so what else?
Nothing. I went through a couple more pages and the footnotes were pure preaching, telling us what we should do, what God meant and so on. Not one tiny shred of anything that resembles evidence. I wonder if ABC did any vetting of these guys? The program looks to be full of crap if that Evidence Bible site is any indication.

Oh, they are so full of crap it's coming out of their ears. In case you're not familiar with it, these two bozos are the geniuses who came up with The Banana: The Atheist's Nightmare. I've also seen a video where they "proved" we aren't related to apes by trying to get a chimpanzee to eat a civilized dinner, complete with glasses, dinnerware, and a knife and fork. The chimp's inability to behave itself was somehow supposed to be proof that humans are more than mere animals.
As far as ABC goes, accuracy is the last thing on their minds. These guys are popular, both with the religious idiots and those who like to laugh at the religious idiots. They win either way.

I thought the banana video makers later claimed they had been joking.
You almost have to wonder if they aren't Colberts or Landover Baptists.

Yeah, that's the ticket! Yes, we have no bananas. And I was just "joking" about "a secret dictatorship," too.
It's going to be humorous to see how they try to deliver on their grandiose promise of a "scientific proof" of God without reference to faith or the bible. (Of course without those. No science there!)
Maybe they'll pull out their bananas on network TV.

Because it was 5 years after the SCOTUS decision of Abington School District v. Schempp. [374 US 203]
Twisted logic dictates that this is likely the tact they will take. The logic being that the high school students affected in 63 grew up without moral direction and those that entered Hollywood then corrupted it.
Christian Parents.com blames the Earl Warren tenure as Cheif Justice for the destruction of "family values" from 53 to 68.
http://www.christianparents.com/histedch.htm
Another is to blame the First Amendment rights of dissent and free speech which Tinker v. Des Moines (1968, 393 US 503) reaffirmed for students.

Comfort and Cameron are idiots.
But they will probably "win" this debate, because you can't stuff real answers into a 6 second sound bite.
