Which old witch?

Jerry Falwell, of course. I'm surprised there's no thread on his failed prediction he would experience the Rapture. Too bad. No Rapture ejaculation for Jerry. He so would have loved to be able to gloat about those who just didn't believe what he decided everyone else should believe. The pompous ass.

Disgusting news reports were going on and on about what a sad passing. Pluueeease! Sorry, I'm not sad. One station noted he was controversial. Right, heaven forbid we say anything bad about the dead. Even if he had no qualms saying the people who suffered 9/11, Katrina, and Andrew deserved it because they might have treated gay people with kindness and dignity.

The obligatory Roy Zimmerman Link

I liked the "Other key events from Falwell's life" at the bottom of the CTV News story on his untimely (it should have happened a lot sooner) passing.

My brother has a good description for people like him - he calls them "A waste of air."

"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. / You can send a kid to college but you can't make him think." - B.B. King

History is made by stupid people - The Arrogant Worms

"The greater the ignorance the greater the dogmatism." - William Osler

"Religion is the natural home of the psychopath" - Pat Condell

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter" - Thomas Jefferson

Previous thread here.

Yeah, ol' Jerry's gone. He took with him an incomparable butt for jokes of all sorts, and will be sorely missed by comedians and cartoonists throughout the land.

There is something of a sadness here in NC. Jerry was good buddies with Jesse Helms, who is still alive in spite of my prediction of a couple of years ago, and Jesse's loss is everybody's loss.

Has anyone driven a stake through his heart yet? Just to be on the safe side...?

Jerry Falwell's achievements are summed up in a fine little biographical film.

The bolded part shows why Falwell gets the disrespect that he does after he died. Just in case any fundy sees this and remembers how ticked off our side was when Answers in Genesis slammed Stephen Gould after he died!

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

I disagree. He was a hate preacher. He didn't let black people into his church until the laws forced him to. Because they were mostly impoverished, and Falwell's grift has ALWAYS been about the money.

Fuck that guy. I'm glad he is dead. To bad for this country he lived into his 70s.

But I am happy, Boron. And I see reply after reply here and on JREF of people who apparently feel the same.

It's late, just finished answering the last of the email, saw this, and began wondering. What would they consider a timely passing for Jerry?

I don't have many particularly strong feelings about it. I didn't like him and even found him dispicable and disgusting, and the country's better off without him, but looking ahead I see someone stepping into his shoes. I rather doubt that his heir will be any improvement.

It's interesting Falwell is embraced by the Republicans despite Falwell's blaming America for 9/11, yet say we contributed to some of the terrorists' hate for us and the Republicans have a cow.
