YO! Just THIS in

(Complete article)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/02/libby.prison.ap/index.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby cannot delay his 2 ½-year prison term in the CIA leak case, a federal appeals court unanimously ruled Monday.

(Photo article on web site of Libby)
WOULD YOU BUY A USED SCOOTER FROM THIS MAN?

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is the highest-ranking White House official ordered to jail since the Iran-Contra affair. (Think Ronald Wilson Reagan when reflecting on Iran-Contra.)

The decision is a dramatic setback for Libby, who likely will have to surrender to prison in weeks. The ruling puts pressure on President Bush, who has been sidestepping calls by Libby's allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Libby was convicted in March of lying and obstructing the investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity. He is the highest-ranking White House official ordered to prison since the Iran-Contra affair.

Libby believed he had a good chance of overturning the conviction on appeal and asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to put the sentence on hold. In a two-sentence ruling, the court refused.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Unlike the Supreme Court, Bush hasn't got the D.C. Court of Appeals in his pocket. I think this is where a president either has to defecate or get off the pot. Couldn't happen to a nicer Harry Truman wannabe.

But Libby has already pulled a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from Bush's Chance deck.

I wonder if Bush will pardon Hovind?

Get out of jail... but not free..... Still has to pay fine.

Jail is not a place for non-violent folks, especially for liars. But I have always had a problem with the fine system. $ 250,000 would destroy a majority of us, and I am sure it will hurt libby, but how much. What is his net worth? Is it even a years worth of salary, ROI, etc?

As far as pardons go, it's pretty unremarkable (except that it is not a full pardon). Hiullary just needs to keep her piehole shut, or start attacking her hubby.....

Peace
Joe

YO:

Libby is such a poor man, there has been a move afoot to raise the money to pay his fine. Former U.S. Senator Ferdie Thompson, I've heard, has been helping with that effort.

I wonder if Scooter will have to live on his pension from the government to make ends meet. Maybe he and his family can drop by the Cheney's occasionally for Sunday dinner.

In dire need of being given a break, I remain, Orwellingly Yurz.

Thank you OI. You can now get up from your kneeling position in front of that giant altar to George W. Bush, with its gigantic, monumental steam-powered rotating statue of George W. Bush, bellowing steam behind a delicate thin curtain on which is scribed "I'm equal in my criticisms of both sides."

Paying money as a sentence is not true justice.
Enyone with enough cash or a support network to whip up the cash (like Howind or Libby) will manage to evade personally paying for the deed he made.
Dude actually has a point with flogging, it being a very personal punishment.
Inprisonment for Howind is a personal punishment. Libby paying a fine isn't.
