I'm not trying to hijack this; just too lazy to start another thread.
Jane Macartney in Beijing

Tibet's living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China's atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules intended to assert Beijing's authority over Tibet's restive and deeply Buddhist people.

“The so-called reincarnated living Buddha without government approval is illegal and invalid,” according to the order, which comes into effect on September 1.

And thus, they send the it even farther underground, which goes to prove that atheists too, can be idiots.

I wonder: How does an officially atheist government prove an act of unauthorized reincarnation in court? Such a trial might resemble the Mad Tea Party.

Does atheism necessarily mean that you can't believe in reincarnation?

The Chinese government maybe be atheist, but aren't skeptics.

If that's the case, they are some really creepy atheists, indeed.

Which is ironic, considering Buddhism is an atheistic religion - they have no gods, at least not in the Judeo-Christian sense of the word. Rather, Buddhism ain't concerned with any god's approval or existence at all.
