Estrella Benavides is being sued by the City of San Mateo over the text she has painted on the side of her home. She says it's all messages from God.

Apparently, God's Communications Assistant is Miss Teen South Carolina. (Notice that the use of an ALL CAPS, sans serif font continues to be the gold standard for crackpots.)

Fined $5,000 for violating a sign ordinance! That seems rather harsh. I'm reminded of a slam poem I heard once where the poet compared wealthy companies advertising on huge billboards to a local band getting in trouble for stapling a flyer advertising a concert to a telephone poll. The poem ended in the middle finger directed at the politicians who make such laws. I tend to concur with this sentiment.

Yeah, personally, I'm okay with letting people advertise their thoughts this way, aside from commercial stuff. It does hurt the looks of a neighborhood, but it's free expression, and can also serve as a public warning of wackiness.

What could say "Nut-bar Inside®" more clearly than this message?
