or I just have tinnitus.
I've had this very high frequency ringing in my head for a couple of weeks. My regular doctor said that everything looks ok, and I'm going to an ear specialist soon.
Anyone know anything about tinnitus beyond what the intra-tubes say?
Also, just wanted to let ya'll know just in case it is the CIA and I am "disappeared"...and if the doctors cannot find any reasons for the ringing, I may need good designs on tinfoil hats.

Basic is the best way to go.
|
What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell |

| Wish I could help, but I have tinnitis myself. A mild case, I suppose, as I normally am unaware of it.
For me, it's usually a continuous, low-level background hiss, much like one often finds in cheap audio electronics. It subjectively vaguely seems to come from somewhere behind me.
On rare occasions, it will ramp up a few (virtual) dBs, or become a high-pitched electronic-type sine-wave tone. I've never had it interfere with hearing real stuff, and rarely is it distracting. I've had it probably most of my adult life. I can't recall having it as a child, though I may have simply forgotten.
I imagine it must be disturbing to experience tinnitis after living many years without it, or for it to seem loud enough to be distracting.
Good luck with getting it under control, or in learning to appreciate it as your own soothing white-noise generator!

Can be caused by a bunch of stuff. Is it constant wherever you go, or does it come and go?
When I was much younger, I would be able to hear the high pitched whine of security systems. It actually was in my pain frequency so I would leave banks and museums with headaches.
I believe they went to a higher frequency so I no longer hear them, but I also have a constant ringing in my ears which I have lived with my entire life. It would get more pronounced with exposure to very loud sounds. (351 Cleveland big block with no exhaust system past the manifold at 120 MPH. (Is this trip really necessary? kph) Hey, the spedometer read 70, but the telephone pole picket fence and inability of the chase car to keep up said something was a bit hinkey.) |

It is constant, but some days are better than others. Today was good, where I hardly noticed it, especially when I'm working (I write software, so I really get focused and it doesn't bother). Other days it can be really annoying. It doesn't seem to block other sounds and I can hear people and radio/tv just fine. I haven't had any headaches, vertigo, etc. |

I imagine that if I have to live with it, my brain will soon fold it into the normal sounds and I won't notice much.
If only I could make my enemies hear this...it could be a superpower! But, if that were true, I would be immediately drafted and used in the Iran War...the war before the AntiChrist is exposed as being Fred Thompson. |

Okay, got back from the doctor and there is nothing wrong! It is the CIA!
Actually, I have small loss of hearing in one ear but not enough to cause tinnitus. So I was given lipo-flavanoids, which are supposed to help increase blood flow to the inner ear. These are not FDA approved. Anyone know anything about these? I haven't had time to do any research on them. |

| Wike gives lipo-lavinoids' formulation as: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 300 mg 500% daily value (DV) Vitamin B-1 (thiamin mononitrate) 1 mg 67% DV Vitamin B-2 (riboflavin) 1 mg 59% DV Niacin (niacinamide) 10 mg 50% DV Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) 1 mg 50% DV Vitamin B-12 (Cyanocobalamin) 5 µg 83% DV Pantothenic acid (calcium pantothenate) 5 mg 50% DV Choline (choline bitartrate) 334 mg DV(unk) Bioflavonoids (lemon bioflavonoids complex) 300 mg DV(unk) Inositol 334 mg | Wiki says it's often prescribed for treatment of Ménière's disease. Did the doc diagnose that?
Sounds a bit iffy. But the formulation probably does no more harm than homeopathy.

I have a high frequency hiss that's been with me at least since I was 10.
It sounds like it's stereo, or coming from inside my head, which makes me believe it's not really the ear that is producing it, but maybe something in the signal processing circuit. It's constant, but just putting on some music on the stereo at normal levels usually is enough to drown the tinnitus. It gets more pronounced when I'm close to falling asleep, or when I wear earplugs in noisy environments like riding my superbike. |

These pills look like a bunch of vitamins, so I don't see any harm in taking them. From what I've read, if they do anything it will be because I have fluid buildup in my inner ear. Of course, I don't know if that is the problem, so who knows? The ringing may go away on its own too. So we'll see. I don't think placebo effect will be a problem, since I am 99% sure these pills will do nothing.
Oh and I have to take them for up to 3 months before I may see some effect. |

You may find it a lot cheaper to take a multivitamin rather than a specifically-forumlated and separate lipo-lavinoid pill. |

True, but I think the "key" ingredient is Bioflavonoids (lemon bioflavonoids complex) 300 mg DV(unk).
Oh well, we'll see in 3 months what happens. |

| It's the "unk" that does the trick. As the slogan says, "Gotta get a hunk of that wonderful unk!"
