YO: Just THIS In...from Raw Story

'No homosexuals in Iran': Ahmadinejad

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad skirted a question about the treatment of homosexuals in Iran on Monday, saying in a speech at a top US university that there were no gays in Iran.
"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country," Ahmadinejad said to howls and boos among the Columbia University audience.

"In Iran we do not have this phenomenon, I don't know who has told you that we have it," he said.

Ahmadinejad was challenged during his appearance on Amnesty International figures that suggested that 200 people had been executed in Iran so far this year, among them homosexuals.

Orwellingly Yurz Sez: Yes, there are no gays or lesbians in Iran, just like Cole Porter liked girls, couldn't write great American Popular Songs and never had any leg pain.

I pray thee, vouchsafe me a f--king break, Mahmoud and throw away your Bush playbook. sir!

OY !!

With such a glaring example of the results of a theocracy, how can so many seem to want one in the U.S.?

Here's a couple of thoughts on Ahmadinejad's queer remark (queer in both senses).

His "excuse" for the lie might be that Iran does not legally recognize the existence of homosexuals. According to Wiki,
Iran is one of seven countries in the world that apply the death penalty for homosexual acts; all of them justify this punishment with Islamic law. The Judiciary does not recognize the concept of sexual orientation, and thus from a legal standpoint there are no homosexuals or bisexuals, only heterosexuals committing homosexual acts.
I don't think anyone in the audience, nor the man behind the podium, nor a single person participating in these fora, believes for a moment that there are no gays in Iran. Nor do I think that even Ahmadinejad felt he was fooling anyone.

If the above is true, then why did he make this patently absurd statement? My guess is primarily to show the mullahs in his country that he likes to piss off Americans and the Western world by showing them the ultimate contempt of a bare-faced lie. Secondarily, it is also, of course, a way to avoid answering a serious charge. Thirdly, it demonstrates his commitment to the official Iranian legal lie that homosexuals don't even exist.

Another point is that Ahmadinejad has demonstrated that he's learned the Big Lie technique of Hitler (and Ahmadinejad's fellow student, Bush).

How can you tell if Ahmadinejad's lying? Look to see if his lips are moving. After obviously lying on one subject, he loses all authority in his assurances on others.
