So I'm not the only one who finds it easier to just go along with the whole Christmas thing instead of raising a stink about it when home in December. Good.

Too bad I can't choose more than one...

I have pretend Christmas Eve with my immediate family and have our traditional seafood dinner - hoping that once again I can steer the family clear of reading out of the Bible,

Then my brother and I and some of our mutual friends celebrate Christmas Eve properly at our favorite bar(s) until the wee hours,

Then stuff myself and watch American Football on Christmas Day while nursing the inevitable hangover eating lunch with extended family.

Business as usual for me.

Well, I do celebrate krismas with the "holiday tree" and santa and nice table with the Swedish Christmas Smörgåsbord.
But really only one of our extended familymembers are religious, and she's rather quiet about it, especially in family get-togethers. So I guess you can say I celebrate the secular Christmas. We have a tradition we follow: visiting a friend for a bubblebath, my parents a few days and celebrate Christmas eve until noon, the take the car for a 1 hour drive back home. Rest an hour or two then on to my girlfriend's family union.

Like pleco I would have liked to select more than one. On December 26th or 27th we will have a pretend Christmas with my wife's family. Though it seems to be more about the gifts than it is about a god. And then on December 31st we will gather with my family to celebrate my Mother's birthday. Something we have done for the past 6 years and with each year has grown in significance. So I picked other.

edited to add: There are 6 grandkids/nephews & nieces at my wife's family christmas.

There's at least three choices I can vote on. I'll be intoxicated and pretending and waiting for the Wii, which has been in a closet for two months now. I'm trying to convince the wife to do a fanciful solstice celebration too, especially since it falls on a Saturday, but she's arguing it's too close to christmas and people will be occupied doing more traditional stuff instead.

I voted for "Doing Something Else" 'cause I couldn't select more than one. Specifically, here's my answer:

GENERIC: I made a sent out generic holiday cards. I alsoput up modest decorations in my home: a 3 foot holiday tree and garland on my mantel. And at my Quaker school job, I participated in the holiday meeting for worship by lighting a candle and making a "wish for the world."

HUMANLIGHT: I emceed my Humanist group's HumanLight party.

WINTER SOLSTICE: No party but last night I made a fancy dinner for my husband and I and lit tea candles all over the living and dining room.

KRISMAS: I will exchange gifts with my family on Christmas, and cook big dinner including goose and figgy pudding. And if my mom wants to go to church I'm going to try to talk her into going to the Unitarian Universalist service. Otherwise she's on her own.

NEW YEAR'S: I will get very drunk on New Year's Eve and then go see the - unique to Philadelphia - Mummer's Parade on New Year's Day.

Next year I'm thinking of adding Kwanzaa to the repertoire, just for fun.

I had two Solstice parties; the first at home on the 22nd with a little booze & good music. At 1:08 EST, I made a post here and then fired the Muzzle-Loader of Celebration into the uncaring sky. I celebrated the second yesterday evening with my family. We swapped modest gifts and like pigs, we ate and nobody said grace. All in all, an excellent piece of the season.

Oops.
Yes, a translation hick-up.
In Swedish, the jacuzzi is referred to as a bubble-pool.

A friend of mine has access to a nice big Jacuzzi.

Oh, I see. Yes, I imagine a jacuzzi-- particularly if it's outdoors so you can contrast the heat of the pool with the colder air-- is nice. In English, a bubble bath is something adults only do in more romantic situations, and something tells me that your girlfriend would be upset to hear about such things!

and now, THE AIRING OF GRIEVANCES!

They tried to get me to participate in festivities for three consecutive days, I put my foot down.

I got no complaints so far. The roast duck and figgy pudding I made turned out awesome. Plus, I got two new bottles of scotch, a 12 year Pebble Beach and 10 year Talisker. Those'll keep me warm!
