.... that if you don't drink, waking up in the morning is the best you'll feel all day, a verification of Dean Martin's hypothesis. Yet another points out that virtually everyone hates mosquitos and will go to some lengths to either kill or avoid them. Still another would have us know that a great many conservative Republicans are in danger of becoming coprolites this election cycle.
The plain fact is that we have too many surveys, polls, studies, canvases, and questionairs to fill out for irrevelent nosey-parkers, the great bulk of which do no more than belabor the obvious. Mark Moford has some thoughts on this (Mark's got interesting thoughts on lots of stuff): Here is this lovely questionnaire. It is part of a big national study designed by a major medical clinic/university/government body and it is therefore presumably quite important and serious and high-minded and its conclusions might very well go a long way toward telling us a great deal more about who we are as a people, as a species, as a weird semi-intelligent flesh-eating creature of this vast and impenetrable galaxy. Please respond accordingly.
Question No. 1 (please be as specific as possible): Exactly how much of an idiot are you? More to the point: How arrogant and ignorant and out of touch with your body, your heart, your mind, your divine sense of self do you feel you are on a day to day basis? Are you, in short, a moron? How much of a moron? Too much of a moron to actually understand this paragraph? Please check the little box on the right. No, the other right. Thank you.
| How much of a moron indeed? And what is the percentage of moronism in the population? How many morons are in your neighborhood?
Maybe we should do a study on it....

A couple comments:
#1. I know from experience you do not know how much a moron you are at any given time. It takes hindsight to appreciate your own inadequacies and few accept the possibility that your past stupidity might have carried over to the present. Therefore such a survey could never deliver any meaningful results. Maybe.
What if you structured the study like this:
A. Survey a random sample of people and ask them if they are currently morons.
B. Wait 5 years.
C. Re-Survey the same group and ask them if they were morons 5 years ago.
D. Determine the proportion of people that were morons but didn't know it at the time.
Deliverable: Should indicate how many people are morons at any given time and provide a statistic to calibrate any similar future studies without the 5 year wait.
#2. One of the most insightful descriptions of humanity I've read in a long time: "a weird semi-intelligent flesh-eating creature." It's beautiful. |

I rarely drink (last night was an exception: Anesthesia after dropping and breaking a brand-new GPS device), yet I always feel the very worst upon waking up, though this is only randomly in the morning.
What's wrong with all you morning people? Good night.

Bah, you guys are missing the best time of day. The light is awesome for photography, the air is fresh, the fishing is great, and a sunrise is more beautiful than any sunset will ever be. |

Same here. I'm a morning person. I like the quiet. I wake up a couple of hours before I need to. Gives me time to ease into the day, reading posts and writing or whatever. It's probably a holdover from my surfing days. The best wave conditions are generally in the early morning, and it's also a way to beat the crowds. |
