Yep thats why evil PC campaigns are usually doomed, its too tempting to be evil. |

"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini |

Evil PC campaigns are usually doomed because the players lack the ability to process the concept of long term self interest.
Good campaings work because the players all share a common set of values and are willing to make sacrifices to achieve long term goals.
Evil campaigns can work if your players are capable of setting aside the infantile temptation to focus only on their personal short term self interest.
Seriously, even the most insanely evil nations/groups in fantasy lit have individuals and leaders who are self sacrificing and capable of playing well with others. Whatever their motivation, be it fear of a greater evil, programmed deference to authority, or a true belief in their cause, if they lacked the ability to focus on long term self interest (which always favors group dynamics) there would never be any evil empires.
Stupid petty greed is what causes most evil oriented campaigns or PCs to fail. And that can be blamed directly on the players, for being stupid, petty, and greedy.

Thing is, these weren't evil characters. They thought they were protecting themselves and the other four PCs in the party from greed and selfishness. |

Well, they hired an assassin to kill you. Not something a "good" character would do.
Mostly that was just a rant about dumb players who can't conceive of a cooperative group dynamic unless everyone is some warrior of light kind of character. It irritates me.
