Well, TIG has not responded to my last post. I doubt that he will. But perhaps he did respond in a way. While I was there, before I posted the offending post, I checked out the links section as well as other areas of his site. We were not there but he has a place to suggest links, like many sites do. Naturally, I suggested a link to us 'cause why not? Those links must be approved. Today I got an email with news that our link had been approved. You can find it at:
http://www.infidelguy.com/link-3.html
Since I made the suggestion that we put this nonsense behind us in my last post over there, that is what I plan to do, unless anything changes.
| Well, I'm happy with the outcome.

Believe me, I know how bad the problem of forum spamming is, but Kil's post was so far from even resembling spam that I am flabbergasted it could have been mistaken as one. So was Kil, hence the existence of this topic. Good moderation would have been to remove the link and perhaps PM the offending member, but that's just me.
@
| I didn't include a link. I didn't ask anyone to check us out either. The signature link is allowable. I always put that in as a part of my signature if it is allowable. And right, on this site we wouldn't have regarded the kind of post I wrote as spam. And at every other site I have posted at with a similar OP, my post was not taken as spam and deleted. But oh well...
The main issue for me was not that my OP was deleted. It was how I was treated after it was deleted.
And while I don't feel that the issue has been perfectly resolved, I am willing to accept that it has been resolved, at least tentatively... |

@tomic, the term "spam" has evolved and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with commercialism. "Forum spam" (in particular) generally refers to either content-free posts which "advertise" some other forum (what Kil was allegedly guilty of), or to one post being copied-and-pasted to multiple forums. |

The irony, according to Abbie Smith, Reggie put her interview up for free. Not that I'm complaining, but still.
And now, a STUPID moment with the_ignored (I had a few things to say, but with my lousy connection, I couldn't get in; by the time I did just now, I've forgotten what I was going to say)
Oh yeah. There's no way that one can compare Reg with DaveScot. Check out the thread on After The Bar Closes |

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Fair enough. I didn't see Kil's original post but still think it's a shame. I'd rather just drop it and move on since I don't see what good can come over dwelling on this.

Check this out
Could it be that the TIG's experience with me has softened his approach when dealing with other skeptics mention of their sites in their OP? Seems to me that this post would have been deleted just a few weeks ago.
And, of course, no matter how he read it, I didn't spam his site for members. |

For what it is worth, I've always associated spamming with random advertising. Mentioning that one runs a Skeptic forum on another forum for freethinkers is obviously not random. I don't see why it would be taboo at all for people to promote themselves or their projects on forums which are relevant to what they do. How else are people without much funding supposed to get the word out and get off the ground? |

| Yeah. It seems kind of silly to me not welcome, as part of our larger community, those who seek to promote their site if it has to do with freethinking at another freethought site. But hey, Finley can run his site anyway he wants to.
Actually, he doesn't say he is completely against it. Just don't do it in an OP, and don't do it if you're not a regular member (post count I assume) at his site.
We pretty much allow people to introduce themselves by promoting their site here, so long as they are not selling something that has nothing to do with freethinking and skepticism. We even allow them to continue to link back to their sites when they have new content, even if they don't participate on our forums much beyond doing that.
And while I really don't much care how Finley runs things at his site, I am glad to see that he may have softened his stance a bit with regard to some kinds of introductions.
