No, I would not. However, if the topic of a thread on an internet skeptic forum happens to be "Fred tells it like it is" then I would expect a full out assault on Fred from every single angle and I would be disappointed with anything less. I am simply returning the favor for the self-anointed savior of us all and capitalist venturer, Al Gore.
You need to read the rest of the article. Only the reporter (a non-expert) claims that "global temperatures have not risen since 1998." The experts quoted all are saying that the "cooling" we're experiencing now is a temporary La Nina effect. Any ten-year claim about now is misrepresentative due to the known climate effects of the Pacific, so it is tremendously misguided to make long-term conclusions based on it. Just think: three years ago the claim "global temperatures have not risen since 1995" would have been, simply put, a lie. And what's with the arbitrary "ten years," anyway? Why not two years or 600 million years? Heck, if we use nine years, we definitely see warming. |
Hmm. Well somewhere I got the notion that while the mean temp between 1998-2008 is above average it pretty much remained straight line from 1998-2008, all while the CO2 production of the world continued to increase. I then pointed to this as evidence that the CO2 output did not effect, or effected very little, the global temps. However, the experts explained the stall in the rise of temps was do to the Pacific currents and their cycles. Once the current cycle runs it duration within the next 5 years we should begin to rise once again. Let me revisit and review that position. Maybe I got that notion from a different piece?
I do not stick with my original position because I disagree with you, Bill. Nor do I disagree with you because I'm sticking to my original position. |
Noted. |

I am simply returning the favor for the self-anointed savior of us all and capitalist venturer, Al Gore. | The OP of this thread dealt with Gore saying that MMGW nay-sayers are "a tiny, tiny minority," which also has nothing to do with how Gore lives his life. You seem to be groping for a rationalization.Hmm. Well somewhere I got the notion that while the mean temp between 1998-2008 is above average it pretty much remained straight line from 1998-2008, all while the CO2 production of the world continued to increase. | I certainly can't tell you how you got such a notion but the temperature graphs tell a different story.I then pointed to this as evidence that the CO2 output did not effect, or effected very little, the global temps. | And such a conclusion might be warranted if the evidence also said that El Nino/La Nina effects were globally small, but we know they're not. However, the experts explained the stall in the rise of temps was do to the Pacific currents and their cycles. Once the current cycle runs it duration within the next 5 years we should begin to rise once again. | Yes, it's a testable hypothesis, we only need wait. However, the MMGW conclusions do not rest upon just the last ten years of data, nor do they rest upon the current La Nina hypothesis. There are mounds of other evidence that need to be ignored to base an "MMGW effects are small or non-existent" conclusion on this arbitrarily picked ten-year segment of time. |

Filthy.....
Funny! I gotta tell you tho' it's Chelydra serpentina!
I feel that way sometimes! Wiki says: "Common snappers are noted for their pugnacious dispositions" and "Some may inhabit brackish environments, such as estuaries." | Coeur D'Alene is a beautiful lake, but I have to admit some of the estuaries are definitely brackish! "Snapping turtles are omnivores," | Generally, I'll eat anything that is set before me, but I lean toward gourmet fare. The more expensive the restaurant, the better. As far as raw is concerned, Scott sounds delicious!
"they are also active hunters that prey on anything they can swallow, reptiles (including snakes and smaller turtles), unwary birds and small mammals" | Bill scott undoubtedly lies somewhere in that broad category - snake seems appropriate, and he definitely resembles various rodents I can think of...... "Snappers will travel extensively overland" | . I drive to the west coast several times a year but I fly a good deal, too!
"their peak laying season is in June and July." | Hell, I'll go at it in June or January, don't matter. "It is a common misconception that Common snappers may be safely picked up by its tail," | Safe, hell! Shit, I hate that! "Wild turtles may be covered with a smelly pond slime and may also defecate, urinate, or musk on a handler." | Well, I really don't shower enough and you're damn right I can get pissy. "Without even a blink from now on the snapper wouldn't leave its eyes from the bait. It transformed into a panther, moved forward slowly and with grace known only to the great hunters. The snapper knew what he was doing. Strike !! One fish gone ! Like a lightning, without warning, so fast that it even went unnoticed ! The fish was just the right size and was swallowed at once, with one gulp.... | I blush, but it's really true!

So it is. I've something else going and pulled the Latin out of a fallable memory.
That is a face I've seen many, many times in my life and expect to see again soon, as local the females seek places to lay. The animal shown is a young female.
When I pick them up, it is by the tail and using a grain scoop for support. It's safe enough, but shit can happen. And when they bite you, they "won't let go 'till it thunders!"

Well, it looks like this'n has pretty much run it's course, so now I have a confession to make:
APRIL FOOLS, SUCKERS!
It ain't easy to run a gag on a bunch of skeptics, so it had to be disguised cleverly. But in the end, I managed to drag the whole forum over ground so well covered previously, that most of us could have posted reference from memory.
It took a week of looking, but I found the Gore story on the 29th. After thinking about it, I decided that it would probably take a couple of days to get going, if go it would. Bill showed up a day early and it took off. I posted just enough to keep it going.
I want to thank y'all for a most enjoyable ride and especially, I'd like to thank Bill Scott for his unknowing assistance. It was a team effort folks; nobody could'a done it alone.

| Yeh, but unfortunatly there was a critical variable involved, that is Bill or someone showing up to give it a kick. If he'd waited 'till the 1st, it would have been perfect as going a little early helped disguise it. And if he hadn't jumped in, it would gone a few posts, then simply withered on the vine as is the common fate of most OPs.
What I really dreamed of was someone like bigbrain to come in ranting about the moon landing hoax, but no Nirvana for me. I knew that going in, of course. Moon landers are hard to come by these days.
But anyhow, the real gag is: You'll never trust me again and that, my friend, is when the good ones can be done!
Tell Michell I found her article interesting and enjoyed it greatly. She should write more.
By the bye: "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." I've always thought of it as: "What goes around, comes around." Wisdom of the ages, eh?
