Seems one King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia wants to organize Muslims, Jews and Christians to rally against that prolific threat to the worlds stability, the foul & depraved atheists! Saudi king seeks new crusade against atheists

If there's one thing I don't like, it's being lectured on morality by a corpulent autocrat with four wives who heads one of the most repressive regimes in the world.
I speak of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, that bastion of freedom of thought and freedom of religion. The king recently had a bright idea: Bring together representatives of the world's monotheistic religions for a confab.
Many media outlets reported this as a positive thing. After all, Muslims and Jews would sit down together in Riyadh. Wouldn't that dialogue be a good thing? The Washington Post even praised Abdullah's action as a sign of tolerance.
A large chunk of the world's population might have reason to feel differently. Let's look at the details: Abdullah has a plan to unite Islam, Judaism and Christianity against a common foe — non-believers.
| They'd better have a care, we have these fundie oafs seriously outnumbered.
What? We don't? Oh, but I meant intellectually, if Abdullah is any measure of the opposition.
The disgusting part of it is that the Washington Post actually appluaded this idiocy.

That a mainstream American paper like the Washington Post applauded it is the scariest part.
Edited to add: At least they just said it was a "hint" of tolerance. Maybe it was a little tongue-in-cheek. Or am I being too hopeful? |

Whether the Washington Post meant to be ironic or not, there's not a hint of tolerance in the Saudi king's proposal. All he wants to do is build a broader coalition (among "people of the book" only) against atheists.
And note that Abdullah's doing it from a position of power -- he'll keep funding the building of mosques in the West, while prohibiting the building of churches or synagogues in Arabia. And his own religious authorities regularly video-conference with Saudi-financed European mosques, advising the believers there on issues of jihad and the place of women.

Yeah. I can't believe they're buying it...For God's sake people, we're not the ones who rammed airplanes into skyscrapers!
Though of course the reply would be along the lines of "we're not the ones who killed tens of millions of people in the twentieth century alone!"

Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

It's not tolerance, it's misdirection. "Don't worry about how we treat our women or gays, instead help me stop the godless."
