The Zyban works for you? I've tried the patches and gum both and haven't quit yet.

Zyban is nothing like the other methods. The big drawback is that because you are not using willpower to quit it's easier to begin smoking again. The success rate is very high at least while taking Zyban. I think I read that there is a long term success rate of about 40%.

I used nicorette gum for about 2 to 3 months after quitting the coffin nails. Then with a bit of difficulty, switched to chewing gum like a rabid monkey for about a month.
That was close to 4 years ago.

I'll NEVER give another penny to those tobacco industry bastards.

Figured I had spent around $17,000 on the habit during the 27 years I smoked.

One other element that helped me quit was reminiscing about my dad when he spoke of quitting his three packs-a-day habit. He did manage to quit about a year later, when he dropped dead from a fatal heart attack. He had just turned 42 years old.
That was back in 1966. I barely remember him now.
Use to say to myself..."Gee, thanks alot dad for being a real whimp about quitting."

Smoking contributes to 400,000 deaths in this country each year. I've removed myself from involvement with that statistic, how about you Trish?

Here's a quit smoking mantra......
to purge the urge,
"Git rid of that stinkin' thinkin'!"

I know I need to quit. I keep trying...but they're damned hard to quit. Seems when I have more to do that I don't smoke as much. Need to get out hiking more, since I don't take the damn things with me.

Just gotta git rid of that stinkin' thinkin'.

Ever see the movie The Insider? When you do watch it, just keep in mind you're the one putting money in their pockets.

Hard to quit?.....nah,....just think of it that you haven't developed the right attitude. Learn to recognize the first urge to light up and develope good mental tools to redirect. After a little self-training, it will get easier.

It will get easier.

Good, that will help. Most anything can help. Becoming more self-educated on the subject will give you more tools to be successful to quit smoking.

Explore the internet for self-help mental tools to be memorized.

Actually, I've been taking Zyban for a month. It's wonderful, wonderful stuff. You just sort of forget to smoke and as an added bonus you are in a great mood all the time. It does cause some insomnia, but that just gives me an excuse to stay up late ; )
@tomic

So glad to hear that, my friend. I hope you don't blame me for nagging.
LOL, you will soon join the ranks of X-smokers who hate smokers even more then those of us who never smoked.

Did you know Dennis smoked since he was 14 and just plain quit the day after my mothers funeral. Never smoked ever after that. My nagging him didn't help at all, the over 10 years I was with him, it took his own mind to know that he needed to do it for himself. I've been so proud of him as I am now for you too @.

Take those sessions with a grain of salt. I've had many friends who went to them and just gave up on the meetings because they felt it didn't help them. You have to realize that the first few weeks will not help at all: it may even make you want to smoke more, but after a while it is supposed to help. They start the seesions out with a discussion of why people smoke, and they continue to talk about smoking, which only reminds you that you haven't had a cigarrette in the last three hours. If you stick with it, and don't expect a miracle cure in the first couple weeks, they should help a lot.

Two new things added today.

1 Super Search
No more doing a seach and just getting the Topic your result is in. Now the search ferrets out the specific post containing the word or term you searched for.

2. Report to moderator
On each post is a link that says "Report." Clicking this brings up a form that sends a note and link off to moderators in case something is posted in the wrong spot or should not even have been posted at all.

re.: quitting smoking
1.) Drink a lot of water. Keep a gallon jug by your bedside. If you wake up hacking, that's a good sign; your body is ridding itself of accumulated toxins.
2.) Live the lifestyle of the nonsmoker. Insist on nonsmoking tables at restaurants, nonsmoking rooms at hotels. Refuse to empty ashtrays for smokers.
3.) Cultivate an elitist attitude. Choosing to be a nonsmoker is a sign of intellectual superiority. Come to view smoking as a habit befitting illiterate lowlifes.
4.) When all else fails, bite on a leather strap or a lead slug.
Take it from an exsmoker who once smoked a pack of regulars per day, two when putting in an evening's drinking. I've been clean of alcohol and tobacco since '84.

"Too much doubt is better than too much credulity."

That's absolutely right. I am one who never smoked and I have always had that attitude. With certain exceptions. @
I think it takes a strong mind to not smoke &/or quit.

When I clicked on report to see if it worked it said that parameter is invalid.

No indication as to what parameter was invalid.

That is so weird. I have clicked "Report" all over the place logged in and not logged in and I have gone to the form every time. Was there a specific post that gave you that error?
