I just moved here and am wondering if there is at least a small dose of rationality in this southern town, where the churches run rampant and the locals still believe in the civil war.

So if anyone lives near here, or is planning to visit anytime soon, let me know, eh?

-me.

What the hell are you doing there, haha?
If this is any kind of advice, my cousin after living most of her life in the Los Angeles area went to Charlotte. She said there are so many people from the north and elsewhere the south is not the way it used to be. At least in the bigger cities. I don't know, that's her idea. Don't know if she's still there. But she's one of those womens rights afirmitive action and bleeding heart liberals so I wouldn't want to have anything to do with her.
Good luck finding some friends. Be careful who you talk to. I'm afraid of being in the South. How long are you going to be there?

Boron - you're military right. Yeah. Well, join MAAF (I'll have to figure out their URL). There's bound to be at least one or two members in your area. That help?

Boron, it ain't no big deal. I'm a southern redneck and I've found that no matter where you go, you'll find home-folks. All you got to do is hang loose. Me, I ain't afeared o' them Yankees no more. Fact is, I even learned to appreciate NYC, the hell-hole of the world!

Just be yourself and enjoy!

South Carolina? quit yer bitchin. Try Mississippi. Now this is the south. Local paper had an article on the preservation of outhouses last week.

The culture shock, especially on the whole invisible man in the sky obsession, can be pretty hard to swalllow. The complete lack of anything resembling a decent pizza is worse.

You're from good ol' Mississippi too, DVF? I was beginning to think I was the only skeptic in the state. Well, it's great to hear that I was wrong.

From Connecticut. Been living in Biloxi for almost a year now, working in LA on the north shore. Most of the people are cool, but the Jesus freaks down here are in a class of their own.
